Acting Secondary Principal's Report
Louise Mellington
Over the term break we have seen the demolition of some of the buildings as we ready ourselves for the next phase of the building program. It has been exciting yet sad to see the buildings being demolished.
We had the end of last term to begin the process of staff and Year 8 and 9 students settling in to the building. There were many adjustments to be made but it has gone well. This week we ran a practice exam timetable for our Year 12 students to see how our end of year exams would run. It was fantastic to see the Year 12 students engage in these exams, run under the same conditions as the VCAA external exams.
Next week marks the end of 13 years of schooling for our Year 12 students. Students will celebrate their final day with a breakfast at the Kyabram Club followed by a final assembly. By the time the next Channels goes out Year 12 will have begun their Year 12 exams. Stay tuned for the next Channels when we highlight their final week of school and wish them well.
Each Tuesday and Thursday morning we have Breakfast Club where our Year 12 students make toasties for our P-12 students. This is an opportunity for them to volunteer. With Year 12 students now in exam and finish mode we have had our Year 11 students now take on that role. It is great to see the teamwork that is occurring to ensure that the toasties are ready to go each Tuesday at 8:20am.
Currently our staff and students are looking at embedding a culture of high expectations within our college. We have completed an initial survey with our staff and are in the process of doing the same with our students. This will be a focus for the remainder of the year and into 2023. Our staff are also unpacking the NAPLAN data which will determine the focus of PLCs this term.
Now that we are into Term 4, this is a reminder that we are a sun smart school and students are required to wear a broad brimmed hat in Term 4 and then again in Term 1. Please support us in ensuring that your child has a broad brimmed hat. If you are unable to purchase one due to financial constraints please contact your child's relevant year level coordinator.
