From the Acting Principal

Well, what a privilege it was to be a part of our 150th Speech Day on Friday. After three years of online Speech Days with parents watching from home, having our community back together in person was so special. The music was stunning, with incredible performances from our Senior String Quartet, Kantor Players and our Male and Female Voice Choirs. My sincere congratulations and thanks to Mr Benjamin Hiscock and Mr Ben Singh.

The Valedictions from our two School Captains were both uplifting and inspiring. Ollie Wortley spoke of a young boy from a dairy farm, milking cows through remote learning to becoming School Captain of the College. Not in his wildest dreams did he expect this, and his key message to the students was anything is possible if you put your mind to it and work hard. Finlay Cameron spoke of the importance of “just being you”, of staying true to who you are despite what others may think and support others to be their true selves.

Our Board Chair Mrs Rosie Merrin stressed the importance of community, of working together to ensure the future of this great school.  “We can go fast alone, but we can go further together”.

Year 12s enjoyed a week of celebrations, with a Year 12 Assembly, visit to Myrniong, House farewells, dress up morning, breakfast and concluding with Speech Day and the countdown clock in the Year 12 Common Room. We could not have been prouder of their conduct and care for each other. We wish them all the best with their examinations.

This week has also been a busy and productive week, with our new Co-curricular Captains formally announced in assembly on Monday, sports continued despite the rain, a group of excited Year 7s headed to the Glenelg River for their canoeing journey and I enjoyed a delicious dinner with our boarders on Tuesday night. Our Young Leaders graduated from the Glenelg & Southern Grampians Local Learning & Employment Network program, congratulations to Will Merrin, Hayley Spence, Grace McPherson, Arbella Little and Lachlan Rees.

There is so much happening and so much more to look forward to!

An update on the Principal recruitment process – the application process is now closed and there has been an encouraging number of applications and a very strong field. A shortlist of applicants will be finalised by the 3 November, followed by a rigours screening and interview process. We are hopefully that an announcement can be made by the end of the year and will keep you informed.
