Year 10 Outdoor Education: Lorne Surf camp
As part of the Year 10 Outdoor Education program, students participated in the Lorne Surf Camp. This adventure-based program allowed the students to be self-sufficient for three days and two nights, camping at the Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park and cooking their meals on trangias.
We left MGSC on Monday 10 October and stopped at the Australian National Surf Museum in Torquay on our trip down, discovering the history of surfing and learning about the technological improvements making surfing the activity it is today. We then took off to Lorne and set up our tents, creating our camp for the next two nights. We were lucky to have a ranger from the Great Ocean Road Parks Authority lead us through an exploration of the rock pools on Lorne beach. We cooked a delicious meal and went for a night walk, extremely lucky to see the most amazing moon!
On Day two, we started the morning with a surf lesson, cooked a hot breakfast and then headed up the mountain to the Live wire Park to participate in zip lining and tree surfing, looking down at the beautiful forest below! Day three started with a cooked breakfast before we walked through the forest to the rapids, spending some time to reflect and be grateful for the experience we have had and the land we were on. Finishing the trip by packing up our tents and heading back to MGSC
This trip developed our resilience, along with our appreciation and gratitude for the comforts we are lucky to have at home. We worked together as a team, cooked amazing meals in our trangias and had a great time trying new activities.
What an experience! Something we will remember forever!

Year 9 Outdoor Education: Wilson's Prom camp
The year 9 Outdoor Ed class went on a camp to Wilson's Promontory for three days. We participated in lots of activities such as surfing, hiking, and environmental cleaning, and learnt a lot of necessary, independent camping skills during the process. Though the weather wasn’t the most ideal, we made the most out of the conditions given, and made lots of memories during the experience.
On day one we all arrived at school nice and early to get the trailer packed and everyone in the bus for our departure at 9am. We stopped at Leongatha to eat our lunch and stretch our legs before getting back on the bus for the rest of our drive. After three hours of singing and sleeping we arrived at Wilsons Prom and after a few hiccups like having trouble finding our campsite we finally were able to set up our tents. Then we participated in an educational session where we learnt about how we can help to protect our beaches and wildlife from non-native plants.
On day two we woke up super early due to the birds and sunlight. We started the day with a quick breakfast before we headed off to our surfing lesson with offshore surf school. Surfing was heaps of fun and lots of us caught our first wave. It rained during the surf which made it even more memorable. After the surf we had some free time which we used to make lunch on the Trangias. Although it was raining on and off all day, we still went on the Mount Bishop hike which was a struggle but we all walked away with new skills and it was a great experience.
As it was our last day, it was fun and filled with lots of major events. We woke up early and started packing up our tents and the campsite which was a lot to do but thankfully we were way ahead of schedule and we left the Prom at 9:30am. We all hopped on the bus headed to the famous Squeaky Beach where we took in the beautiful view of the beach and explored more, later on we stopped for some lunch at Leongatha McIndoe Park. After lunch we were on our way home and I hope I speak for all of us that we were all looking forward to getting home and having a good sleep in our beds again as we were all tired after a massive long three days but we all had a great and interesting time.
Thanks to our wonderful teachers for the experience, it was definitely one to remember.
