Maths Talent Quest

The Maths Talent Quest is a competition about conducting a real-world Maths investigation where students select their own investigation topic based on their personal interests and apply Maths in context. This is our first year participating in the Maths Talent Quest Competition. We entered 2 competing groups from Year 5 to part in the (Financial Literacy in Practice) FLIP challenge as part of the Maths Talent Quest and it brought a real-world focus to financial literacy education to the classroom. These 2 groups worked extremely hard on their investigations during school, in their lunch breaks and even at home! And for that, they have achieved outstanding results!

Congratulations to Zahra Maimoon, Nate Malizia, Stephanie Fung, Aidan Handyside, Cameron Newnham and Alycia Rolfe. They achieved a Distinction for their investigation on ‘What popular pet cost more. Dogs, cats or rabbits?’ Well done for all your amazing efforts!

Congratulations to Xavier Aitken, Iris Liu, Kaitlyn Rolfe, Paul Gong and Claire Zhang. They achieved a High Distinction for their investigation on ‘Comparing Different House Prices From Around The World and Looking at Interest Rates’. Xavier, Iris, Kaitlyn, Paul and Claire also won the FLIP Challenge for Most Outstanding Group Primary. Well done for all your outstanding efforts!

It has been challenging as well as an exciting and fun experience for these students. Both groups should be so proud of themselves because we all are!! This competition is not only for Year 5 students too, students of all year levels can participate, even Prep! We hope to see more students participate next year.

Carols On The Green

Wednesday 7th December 2022

Event Details:

We are excited to continue our Carols On The Green tradition this year, taking place on the evening of Wednesday 7th December on the oval. This annual end-of-year celebration provides an opportunity for all children to experience the joy, pride, nerves and satisfaction of collaborative performance for a large audience of hundreds of people. Families are invited to attend, many choosing to bring a picnic rug to sit on while watching students perform. Performances start at 7pm with a BBQ dinner available from 5.30pm (cash only). All students are required to be present by 6:30pm to allow them sufficient time to find their classes and prepare for the evening.

Songs:

Many students have asked that I put together lyrics and backing tracks to assist them to practise at home. They can be found by clicking on THIS LINK to Google Drive, then opening your child’s year level folder and the whole school song folder. I have also included videos of the actions for each song. All children will participate in two songs: their own year-level number, and the whole school finale. There will be a few other surprises in the program that may involve some children in an additional item. I’ll be working closely with each class up until carols night, however performance quality and confidence always improves with preparation, so it would be greatly appreciated if you have a few minutes each week to support your child run through the songs at home.

What To Wear:

As children attend the carols event in clothes from home, I’ve included costume themes and ideas to allow plenty of time to get things sorted. It is the overall effect of the whole year-level that has an impact, so please do not buy something special or feel the need to go all out on costumes. There is often a neighbour, family member or friend who can share items with you. Please keep in mind that children should not have anything in their hands as we have dance moves included in each performance, and that they need to be able to sit on the ground in their costume for a long period of time. We cannot have children leaving to change clothes as they also have an important role as respectful audience-member for the other acts.
