Music

This term, the Year 1 and 2 Community have participated in the Inquiry unit “We are family, I have all the cultures with me…..How do different cultures express themselves?” They are learning to identify how the cultural diversity of our community can be expressed artistically. As part of this, the teachers and students are learning about Music, Visual Arts, Drama and Dance. Over the next few sessions, they will be focusing on Music.

In Levels 1 and 2, students listen to and experiment with a range of sounds. They develop skills in imagining and creating and performing music that explores their ideas about the world. Students share their music with peers and select and make choices about their use of the elements of music as they improvise, compose and perform. They develop their understanding of the varying features of music from different cultures, times and locations and how it can be used for different purposes.

The Year 1 and 2 children travelled around Australia and the world experiencing music from different places - Traditional Australian, Vietnamese and Indigenous Australia. They listened to, sang along with, and created their own version of the songs they heard.

Children's Week

Children's Week is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children. Each year, thousands of Victorian children take part in the Children's Week festivities. The 2022 theme is "All children have the right to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development", drawn from Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

During Children's Week, local councils, not-for-profit organisations, schools, and early childhood services organise open days, displays, special events, virtual spaces, and online-based activities. These celebrate childhood and showcase children's achievements.

All Children's Week events are free to families with children aged from birth to 12 years. It's a great opportunity for Victorian families to enjoy fun, engaging and educational experiences.

The Victorian Government have a calendar of events. You can access it at https://www.vic.gov.au/childrens-week-events-2022 if you are interested.
