Work Experience at Good News Lutheran College

While Work Experience is not a compulsory component of the career education program at the College, it is highly recommended and encouraged.

There are many benefits to a student undertaking work experience, these include:

  • A greater understanding of the workplace environment, behaviour and expectations
  • The opportunity to develop contacts in an Industry and potential assistance with career planning
  • Improved self-confidence and self-awareness
  • The opportunity to test future career choices before leaving school
  • A reference for your resume
  • A possible part-time/casual job

How it works

  • Students identify a job or industry you are interested in and apply or register interest
  • Note: some structured work experience programs run by Hospitals and Universities are very popular and have extended application processes and set dates that change each year
  • Work Experience is undertaken over a 5-day (weekday) timeframe. Work Experience can be undertaken any time during the school year, except for the December/ January term break.
  • Work Experience is Legislated by a Ministerial Act:
    • Students must be over 15
    • Some Industries are prohibited or have limited experiences
    • Paperwork must be completed and signed by all parties including the College
    • College must approve Work Experience
    • Preparation activities, including Safe Work Certificates must be completed before work experience takes place
    • All necessary paperwork and activities are available through the College Career Tools website

Virtual Work Experience

Another option for those who don’t feel ready to undertake off-campus work experience just yet – is the Virtual Work Experience program that we also have available through our College Career Tools website

Virtual Work Experience can be carried out in the comfort of your own home and in your own time.

Virtual Work Experience activities are all completed online through a range of interactive activities and projects. Each Job experience takes around 7-9 hours, broken down into smaller projects and experiences. These can be done at different times, fitting in with your other activities.

A range of Industries is available including Policing, Psychology, Nursing, Engineering, Veterinary, Physiotherapy, Law, Building & Construction, Game Development, Doctor, Personal Trainer, Hairdressing, Teaching, Forensic Science.
