It is a great way for parents and students to keep up to date with what is happening at the school in terms of Pathways including things like subject selection and work experience.

It also has a wealth of information about upcoming open days for Universities as well as details about special opportunities that may be of interest to our students.

RSPCA Immersion Day

On Tuesday the 11th of October Brileah, Clara, Isabella and myself attended the RSPCA immersion day. The day’s focus was on possible careers working with animals. Multiple guest speakers spoke about their career and how they came to have that job. The speakers were incredibly helpful and informative about how we can work with animals in the future as well as providing information on how to volunteer at RSPCA. Throughout the day we learnt that being a vet or vet nurse isn’t the only way to fulfil my dreams of working with animals. Through the expert speeches I learnt about the possibilities of being a behavioural specialist, animal cruelty inspector, foster carer and many more possible callings. I would highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in animals and working with them as well as if you are unsure in what you want to do.

Victoria’s senior secondary education is changing

From 2023, the new VCE Vocational Major will replace Intermediate and Senior VCAL. This means the VCE will recognise different students equally. Students will have more education choices, a higher-quality curriculum and better workplace experiences – preparing them for further study, training at TAFE or work.

From 2023, more students will study the VCE. That is because the VCE will include the Vocational Major, a 2-year program that sits within the VCE. There will also be the Victorian Pathways Certificate for those who need flexibility in their learning.

A new information and awareness campaign, Many Talents, One VCE will roll out explaining the changes.

The changes are a result of the Review into Vocational and Applied Learning Pathways in Senior Secondary Schooling (the Firth review). The review found we needed to improve vocational learning in schools.

Brentwood currently offers VCAL which will switch to the VCE Vocational Major from 2023.

Teachers and careers counsellors are available to answer questions and to support students as they make decisions about their final years at school.

Now students will have greater access to high-quality, relevant vocational education and applied learning opportunities.
