2021 Year 12 students DESTINATIONS
Congratulations to the Year 12 students from 2021 for taking the first exciting step towards their future and receiving outstanding post school destinations.
The numbers looked like this:
- We had 92 students
- 68 Applied for Tertiary Study (49 are doing Bachelor Degrees and 15 are doing Diplomas or Advanced diplomas which will lead them into a degree. 4 were doing certificates)
- 8 started Apprenticeships
- 11 Employment 6 x full time, 3 x part time, 2 x working for parents
- 2 Gap Year
- 2 Unknown
There will be five rounds this year with the final round being announced on 18 February. This is when we will have the definitive picture of the Class of 2021 Destinations.
Monash University was again the most popular tertiary destination for our students, followed very closely by RMIT. Swinburne came in third.
it is interesting to note that the most popular industries for Nazareth students to apply to study in 2022 was very similar to the rest of Victorian students.
IN VICTORIA AT NAZ
1. Science & Arts most popular 1. Science
2. Engineering 2. Business
3. Nursing 3. Health / Nursing
4. Commerce 4. Engineering
5. Business 5. IT
Biomedicine decreased in numbers as did Education - I wonder if that is a result of too much online learning? Do students appreciate how uninspiring it is for teachers to talk to blank tiles in class during online learning?
The impact of COVID-19 over the past two years has seen the following trends –
- The Health Sector increased in 2020, but decreased in 2021
- Hospitality decreased in 2020 and then again in 2021
- Business decreased in 2020 but increased in 2021
I wish all the 2021 Year 12s a happy, healthy and rewarding future no matter what they chose to do.
Year 10 Work Experience
This year all Year 10 students will undertake a one week work placement of their choice during the last week of Term 2 (20 -24 June). Students were introduced to the program during Fast Start last December and were given material to help them approach employers to look for a placement over the school holidays. The due date to hand in their paperwork is the end of Term 1 (4 April.) This is not far away so I urge all Year 10s to get cracking and get asking. Don’t be put off by knock backs that is part of the whole experience - after all, as adults we have not always received the first job we have applied for. Parents, please encourage your child to find a job placement themselves – it is a really important part of the program. Perhaps suggesting that they use family networks by asking relatives or friends to take them on. Why not try your sports coach or church group? Please note that students are not to work with their parents or at their regular part time job.
Remember – the longer you leave it, the quicker places fill up.
I am looking forward to working with our fabulous students this year focusing on creating a positive year to create an inspiring future.
