Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

Happy Students

It has been a joy to be able to welcome our students back onto campus for the start of the 2022 school year. The smiling faces have been a very welcome sight. Our first week of school has been a busy one (as everyone adjusts back to the routine), but a very successful one also.

We have been delighted to be able to welcome over 160 new Year 7 students, as well as new students at Years 8-12.  It is a blessing for us to have you in our community. A big welcome to these students and their families.

Year 9 Camp

After an unsuccessful attempt to re-schedule the Year 9 Camp date, in addition to completing the detailed COVID Risk Assessment, we are very pleased that the Year 9 Camp will take place as planned on Monday 14 February until Wednesday 16 February 2022 (inclusive dates).  Permission Slips have been sent home via PAM and parents/guardians/carers have been replying, thank you.

Schools Operation Guide

As we have returned to school for 2022 Melbourne Archdiocesan Catholics Schools (MACS) has advised that any non-essential extra-curricular activities and school events should be postponed, or if possible, operate virtually, and if they are to go ahead in person there needs to be a completed detailed COVID  Risk Assessment. As a result, a number of events have been postponed or moved to virtual/zoom meetings as we endeavor to follow the directives as best as we can for our community. We are hoping to be able to reschedule our Opening of the School Year Mass to a later date and will let the community know when we are in a position to be able set a date.

College Uniform

We have been pleased to see the majority of our students wearing the College Uniform correctly and following the uniform expectations. Thank you to the many students who take pride in wearing their uniform. We are aware there have been some issues with stock at the Uniform Shop due to factors outside of their control. We are grateful to the Nazareth College Community Association (NCCA) who have opened up their second-hand shop on Saturdays over the last couple of weeks to support families in purchasing uniforms.

If any parents/guardians/carers are unsure about our uniform expectations, please refer to the Student Planner (Student Diary) or contact your child’s Head of House. A copy of the regulations are attached.  A reminder to please write a note for your child’s Pastoral Teacher if there are any uniform items that at this moment you have been unable to obtain.

Student Wellbeing

Over the last two years it has been difficult time for all students and families. We are desiring to do what we can to be supporting all our students and their Wellbeing. To assist this the College is delighted to be able to welcome to our Wellbeing Team a new and highly experienced Counsellor, Ms Arlene Diston.   If you would like to discuss student counseling please feel free to contact your child’s Head of House or one of our two counsellors, Ms Arlene Diston and Ms Casey Cilia.

Partnership

As we begin the year, we are very grateful for the opportunity to be able to work in partnership with you, the primary educators of your children. Clearly the best spiritual, human, intellectual, and emotional growth and development comes when we are working as a team, together, supporting each other. To assist this please feel most welcome to contact your child’s Pastoral Teacher should there be any questions or issues.  You are encouraged to share any information that may be in your child's best interest for the College to know. We are excited to be able to work together again this year. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do to support you and your child.

God Bless
