Music is back!

How wonderful it has been to have the sound of music wafting through the Music Centre, in both lessons and ensemble rehearsals. In my first month at Huntingtower it has been my great pleasure to be immersed in the wonderful energy and excitement that the students bring when making music.

Ensembles and Lessons

All students are encouraged to participate in our many ensembles, and the opportunity to take private music lessons within school time. We currently have a particular need for students to take up the lower-pitched instruments in each of the string, brass and woodwind families. This is so that we can better balance the ensembles and be able to perform a wider range of works that require these instruments to be prominent. Some students, particularly pianists, may like to consider playing the Double Bass, Trombone or Tuba as a second instrument, or commence on this as their first instrument. The current fewness of these instruments will mean that there will be greater opportunities at an earlier stage of development available to these students. Please find below the current rehearsal schedule for our ensembles:

New members are still welcome to join the Senior and Middle School Choirs, the Middles School and Symphony Orchestras, or the Concert Band by sending in an expression of interest via email or in person. Please note that the Chamber Choirs membership is by audition, and Senior Strings membership is by invitation. All guitarists (who are not a member of the Senior Choir) are encouraged to join the Guitar Ensemble on Tuesday afternoons as a Period 6 option.

Upcoming Event

We have our first concert of the year for our ensembles on Wednesday 4 April in the PAC starting at 7pm. This will be the first opportunity this year for our Choirs, Band and Orchestras to showcase the excellent work that has been going on in rehearsals. More details on this concert will be forthcoming soon.
