Facilities Report

Ocean Grove Primary School has undergone a range of facility works and upgrades over the last 12 months. 2021 has seen the delivery of the accessible building program (modifications to infrastructure and equipment, which improves access for students, staff or visitors with injuries or a disability), the installation of sliding doors (to create individual work spaces) in our SLC building, a speaker system upgrade, the installation of solar panels on the gymnasium roof (thanks to the hard work of the sustainability sub-committee) and of course the annual inspections of our trees, testing and tagging of electrical equipment, fire extinguishers/hoses and the servicing of our heating and cooling systems.

2022 will bring many exciting new projects such as the remediation of the North/West corner of our playground, the installation of our new climbing frame (OGPS fundraising – thank you), the repairing of our damaged shade sail and the installation of a new shade sail (obtained through a grant), more solar panels to be installed on the roof of the SLC building and the development of our inclusive playground (obtained through a grant written by Greg Pascoe Leahy) where the Stephanie Alexander Garden was.

OGPS usually encourages families to use the grounds during holiday breaks however, this coming break our site will be managed by an external company who will be working in the North/West corner of the playground. Families are encouraged to stay off the school site whilst these works are in progress. I am sure it will all be worth the wait as we look forward to further upgraded facilities in 2022.

If you would like to join the facilities school council sub-committee, please contact me on 52551340.

Have a restful break everyone,

Kristy Hannan-Cuthbertson

Message from School Council President

On behalf of School Council, a heartfelt thank you to the extraordinary, and unrelenting, effort and care demonstrated by the OGPS teaching staff this year. In uncertain and unpredictable times, our children’s teachers have fronted up everyday, juggling their teaching commitments with their own lives in the face of a global pandemic. They’ve taught, improvised, engaged, and inspired our kids, all whilst supporting the children’s social and emotional wellbeing. They have been our frontline workers and are to be applauded for their efforts. Like magicians, they’ve transitioned from in-person teaching to remote learning and back again, seamlessly. We know it hasn’t been easy - please know that we are grateful. Chookas to you all (and the newbies coming on board) in 2022.

Finally, a huge shout out to the OGPS parent and carer community. Watching our children navigate their education during a significant historical moment has been tough, and the impacts on our kids have been broad. But despite all of this, our community has continued to support the school and the teaching staff in myriad ways. Thank you to you all. Here’s to a less ‘colourful' 2022.

Simone Shanahan

School Council President
