Assistant Principal - Learning and Wellbeing - Happening Events

Mr Damian Roff

Our students are four weeks into classes in Term I 2022 and have settled into normal routines and a pattern of study. At this point, students have been reminded that any changes to study patterns in regards to electives (Years 9 -12) require a formal process of approval. Hopefully, not much of this is required now, but if so students start this process with the collection of the relevant form from the front office.

Our REC Miss Roach has no doubt mentioned this, but it is wonderful to see the College liturgical life alive again in 2022. Year Masses began last week with Year 7 and our Year 8 students have a mass this week. Many thanks to Father Roel, our Parish Priest and all the clergy at the Cathedral Parish for the support of these Masses. In 2022 O'Connor Catholic College and St Mary's will have two family masses a term at the 5.30 pm Sunday mass at the Cathedral. The youth of the parish are responsible for the ministries including music, readings and welcoming. Last Sunday saw the first of the year and it was great to see how well supported it was with families not only from O'Connor and St Mary's but also from other schools in Armidale.

With the announcement of an easing of COVID restrictions in NSW schools, many of the great co-curricula activities offered at O'Connor previously put on hold will resume again. This includes sports such as the swimming carnival that is on this week. O'Connor students enjoy a day off from school on Friday this week due to their commitment to the carnival on Thursday evening. Well done to all competitors but best of all was the spirit of community. Again, fingers crossed but hopefully many of the sports we have played at a diocesan level will resume soon. These hopes are also for cultural activities, community service. Bravo to our Vinnies group who have overcome being unable to visit the elderly at Autumn Lodge in person by organising virtual visits.

It is also Show Season, and many of our students are involved in all sorts of events. The Guyra Show was last week and Mrs Price said our students can be very proud of their efforts. The Armidale Show is fast approaching and we very much look forward to hearing the achievements of our students.

Please take note of upcoming dates on the calendar, especially the Year Information nights. These have been conducted virtually but now we can invite family and friends on campus.
