Campus Stories

Book Week
What a wonderful time we had celebrating Book Week across both campuses! Everyone looked amazing in their costumes! Thank you parents - we know you put in a great deal of time and effort in helping students express themselves in 'character'. It was wonderful to see so many staff members join in too.
"Cornerstone Dunsborough celebrated its third annual ‘Books in the Bush’ event last week. Students and staff came dressed as their favourite book character. Local Margaret River author, Miriam Wei Wei Lo, surprised students with readings of her latest children’s book. “Bree’s Forest Adventure” is an inspirational children’s tale set in our local Boranup Forest. It encourages its readers to care for, understand and enjoy all that can be found in nature, so very much a part of what the school seeks to develop in students. Children had other surprise guest readers to find in the bush throughout the day. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Book Week".
"The high school excelled itself today by celebrating Book Character day. As the photos show, there were numerous outstanding interpretations of characters from books ranging from traditional fairy tales to best sellers like the Hunger Games series to the quirky Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This event is just one of the many outstanding educational events offered by the College where learning, fun and a sense of community define the experience. We would like to commend Mr Will Heyes, Head of English, who is the "author" of this event".
A huge thank you to parents and staff who ran our Book Fair this year. Thank you for helping us get good books into the hands of our children and into our library!
We hope you enjoy some of the photos of this fantastic annual event.
Bunbury Eisteddfod
The Bunbury Eisteddfod is an annual event that sees Cornerstone students perform alongside students and adults from across our region. A string trio representing the College won first place in their category.
Congratulations!
The College also has a Secondary group competing in the Drama category and a Primary group in the Choir category. Thank you Mr van der Tang and Mrs Johnson for preparing these teams for the competition.
Careers Expo
I really enjoyed the Careers Expo, there were many universities that offered a range of courses. I learnt that there are many smaller universities that study particular courses, of which that are a lot cheaper than major universities. I'm thankful for all of the interesting career opportunities. - Olivia
I didn't know about the accommodation opportunities at the universities & now I do. - Matthew
It was good fun, great to get a bit of experience in potential jobs. I enjoyed the brick laying. - Josh S
It was a good experience seeing all the different careers I could go down. I would do it again. – Noah
A room full of great opportunities. Thank you career expo for giving us the opportunity to see what our futures might look like. - Carrie
I found out that there is an alternate way to get in to a Physiotherapy degree. By completing the first year of Exercise and Rehabilitation Sport Science degree and then switching to Physiotherapy. – Maddi
There is a lot of options out there for courses suited to different people’s needs and if you are unsure there is heaps of tools to use to assist people in finding what they want to do. Plus they was some pretty cool free pens etc! - Eloise
Super fun, loved it, lots of free things, 10/10 would recommend again, also it helped me realize how many options there are and how much all of them want us. - Fred
The careers expo on Wednesday gave a solid perspective and idea to most, perhaps even a little inspiration. And the wide variety of options available (Including the laugh of who could gather the most FREE STUFF!!) was awesome to see, knowing that we have a decision to go ahead and do what we love in the future. - Lauren
Thank you!
Ashlyn Atkinson and Josh Riches (Cornerstone Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy 2016) got to see the long awaited soccer goal which was part of the legacy they wanted to leave the school upon graduating. Hard work and 3 sausage sizzles later the FIFA goals were able to be purchased. Many thanks go to the parents and students who helped at the sausage sizzles to make Ashlyn and Josh's dream come true. A big thank you to Darrin Caldwell who donated the net.
Thank you!
A huge thank you to Mr Johnson who has up-cycled and customised an old bookcase to safely store Cornerstone's set of ukuleles. The year 3-5 class at Dunsborough are taking on the challenge of mastering this fun and versatile instrument.
Grandparents Day
As part of our inquiry into 'what makes me, me and you, you' the Busselton Pre-Primary class have been looking at family, the structure of different families, and the people in our family. We have had Grandparents and even Great Grandparents visit our class and bring interesting photos and objects from the past and talk to us about what life was like for them growing up. Last Wednesday (the 30th) we held a Grandparents' Day and invited the Grandparents in to see our classroom and spend some precious time with their Grandchildren. We drew and painted portraits of each other, had our photo taken in a photo booth, made a string of beads for the classroom and played old fashioned games from the past such as dominoes, pick up sticks, marbles and croquet. We then enjoyed a delicious morning tea together.
Quilt West WA State Competition 3rd overall in Junior Category: Tessa Schifferli
"In May this year I entered the Quilt West Competition. This is the third time that I’ve entered this state wide competition. I received an overall 3rd place in the Junior Category for 14 years and younger. My quilt had a vibrant coloured sunset as background and a black Boab tree in the center. My favourite part of the quilt is the Bible verse at the top that reads: “ You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy” (Psalm 65:8) I made this quilt for my friend Katie’s birthday. The inscription I had to write and attach to the quilt read: “This quilt is for my friend Katie and is based on her character and beliefs. I enjoyed doing the stippling.” I really enjoy quilting because it is relaxing and is a way to bless other people". Tessa Schifferli Year 6
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory!
Dunsborough Year 3, 4 and 5 Excursion - Gabriel Chocolate
Investigating the origin of chocolate can be tough work. As part of our research regarding Christopher Columbus, the explorer responsible for introducing cocoa to Europe, we realised that we needed to know more about chocolate.
We have been reading through Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and even written letters to Mr Wonka, persuading him to employ us in his factory. To further our research, needed to interview an expert in the field of chocolate.
We visited Gabriel Chocolate to explore the inner workings of a chocolate factory and asked the founder and owner, Gabriel, many questions. He explained the labour intensive process of producing a delicious chocolate bar, showed us around his factory and gave us plenty of cocoa and chocolate to taste test. After we posed our questions to the expert, we were able to roam the shop to purchase a bar of delicious chocolate.
