Principal's Chat

Last week we had many of our Year 3 - Year 6 students out and about in the community.  I would like to thank all staff involved in organising and taking our students to the various sporting events.  Once again our students had fun and represented our school with pride.

Congratulations

Well done to Ethan & Tousif from our Senior School.  They did a fantastic job at the recent STEM Mad Showcase at the Catholic Leadership Centre in Melbourne winning the Best Innovation for the  Environment. All at OLSC are very proud of you. Check out the STEM Page for an explanation of the boys project.

OLSC Community Mass

Our next Community Mass is this Sunday, November 3 @ 10am in the Sports Centre.  I would like to encourage as many of our families as possible to join us for this celebration.

Planning for 2020

Can I please remind all families who may be leaving our community at the end of the year to contact me via email ASAP : principal@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au.  We have many families on a waiting list and need to contact them in the near future.

Staff have begun the long process of  placing students into Learning Groups for 2020.  Parents who have any concerns or information that they feel will impact their child are asked to notify me by email. The more information we have the better informed we are to make decisions that benefit the students.

Kids Thrive

This week is a busy one for our Senior students.  Our Year 6 students are involved in a Kids Thrive Boot Camp facilitated at OLSC by the Kids Thrive Team along with Hayley & Scott. The Bootcamp is a week-long creative leadership and social change incursion program. It encourages student voice, choice and agency as they take the lead in self-initiated, community change projects. In this step-by-step program our students will become catalysts for change by being given the tools of self-empowerment to actively make the changes THEY want to see in their communities, right now. They will look outside themselves to practice volunteering, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. They will look inside themselves to build empathy and resilience. The students will work in teams & be guided through an action based process with the aim of designing a community action project.  On Friday each team will present their project design to a panel, comprising of a Kids Thrive representative, Wyndham Council representative: Henry Barlow, Parent representative: Anthony Sandry & myself.  The panel decides if the project meets the criteria & fits within a designated budget & gives the nod for the project to be implemented.  We are looking forward to seeing what action projects our students develop and how they will make a difference in our local community. Running parallel to this our Year 5 students are also involved in an alternative program this week.  Stayed tuned to hear their exciting ideas for our school to be involved in helping the backbone of our country, our farmers and the ideas to raise awareness of sustainability.

Parish Fair: We are in desperate need of your help!!

Thank you to all families and staff who have already donated prizes for our Spinning Wheel. So far Kiah's learning group is in the lead to have a hot chip lunch but there is still plenty of time for others to catch up.

We still need new items such as toys, games, homewares, gifts,  tools &  Gift vouchers.  Donations to be left with your child's Learning Group teacher.

Don't forget to sell the Car Raffle tickets that were sent home at the end of Term 3.  All sold & unsold raffle tickets must be returned to the school office by the end of next week please.

Long Weekend

Don't  forget Monday is a pupil free day for all students and Tuesday is a public holiday for Cup Day.  The staff are working off site on Monday so no one will be available at school until Wednesday November 6.

Cheers

Sandy
