Assistant Principal's Report

Building Works

We are pleased with the progress on our major Building works. Our new student toilet block should be finished late November and the new Administration area will be completed next week. The Admin and Principal Teams will be moving to the front of the school so that the current Administration area can become a new Library space. We can then use the old Library space to create a new classroom wing which will be used for English classes. Parking at the front of the school will resume at the end of the year. Until then can families please park along the driveway or on Grafton Rd or Cramer St. We apologise for any inconvenience.

As part of our major Building Works we are having some asbestos removed on the weekend of November 3 & 4. We are not allowed to have anyone on school grounds while asbestos is removed. Please ensure that you are not on school grounds during this weekend. School will be right to resume on Monday 5th November as usual.

Busy Start to the Term

It has been a very busy start to the term with the year 7 information night last week, The year 10 formal last week, parent teacher interviews, the year 10 Bondi camp, year 12s finishing official classes this week and having celebration assemblies and a BBQ cooked by the Principal team too. In the coming weeks there are several sports events and other camps and excursions coming up. Please ensure that you consent and pay on time or your child may not be able to attend.

Year 12 Last Day

Today we farewelled our Year 12s for 2018. We changed the process this year with the year 12s sharing a breakfast with staff at Russell’s Creek before school, before having a celebratory assembly in the year 12 Common Room, and finally the whole school made a guard of honour for the year 12s as they symbolically ran through the west-side basketball courts and down the driveway out onto Cramer St at the end of period 1. If you wish to see some drone footage of the year 12s leaving for the last time in school uniform see our facebook page! All students were mature and respectful during their end of year celebrations. We wish them all the best for their exams which start next Wednesday 27th October.

Year 8 – 12 Exams

  • As mentioned above Year 12s commence next week and finish 21st November.
  • Year 11 exams commence 14th November and finish 23rd November.
  • Year 8-10 exams commence 30th November and conclude 4th December.

The idea behind exams in the junior school is to build the skills required for VCE well before students start their VCE. Skills such as note taking, understanding how marks are allocated and understanding instructional words all come through experience of undertaking exams before students begin their VCE.

Study Skills such as making flashcards, re-writing notes, making posters, partner tests or verbal tests from a parent or friend also help build the necessary skills for students to succeed at VCE level well before students begin their VCE.
