From the Head of Junior School

Dear Members of the St Gregory’s College Community,

Welcome to a new year at St Gregory’s College! I trust that families have enjoyed their holiday experiences and the opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and catch up with family and friends. To our many new families joining us in 2020, I welcome you to our special school community. At the Junior School we treasure the strong commitment and bond that exists between the School and its families in working together to achieve the best outcomes for the students. We look forward to another exciting year, working together with our families this year.

Our new year brings new students and families into our community as we now call ourselves a two stream Junior School (two classes per grade). It also presents the opportunity for new staff to join the Junior School team as well.

Due to our expansion, we welcome the following new staff to the Junior School:

  • Mrs Kristy Scott – Kindergarten Blue
  • Mrs Robyn Bowen – Year 2 Blue
  • Mrs Erin Burton – Year 3 Blue
  • Mrs Kaelene Harris – Year 4 Blue
  • Mrs Gabrielle Borg  - Year 4 Maroon
  • Mr Simon Edwards – Year 5 Blue
  • Mrs Paula Grados – Year 5 Maroon

Kindergarten Start

What a wonderful start that Kindergarten have made this week. We were blessed as a College community to open the doors to our newest and smallest members of this community on Tuesday as our Kindergarten students started their 13 year journey as students.

Our Kindergarten students had two half days on Tuesday and Wednesday and had the challenge of two full days on Thursday and Friday this week. I trust that all of our Kindergarten students enjoyed their experiences this week. We look forward to seeing them next week complete their first full week with us next week.

I want to thank the College staff for their professionalism in making this process so smooth this week. A particularly strong thanks to our Kindergarten Team of Mrs Limbrey, Mrs Scott, Mrs Tweedie and Mrs Hayes.

IPSSO Kicks Off

As we have grown this year, we have also had the opportunity to expand our IPSSO Sporting Program to include eight sports this year, which is exciting!

In Terms 1 and 4, we are competing in Mixed Basketball, Girls Soccer, Cricket and Mixed OzTag. Each fortnight the coaches of the teams will update the community through this College newsletter in the Sports Section. Congratulations to all students who have been lucky enough to make one of these teams and a thank you to all students who ‘had a go’ at making this team.

All students in IPSSO teams would have received an IPSSO Permission Note and Contract this week which needs to be completed and brought back to school. We wish all teams the best this year as they represent the College each week on the sports field.

Meet the Teacher Information Evening for Parents – On Thursday 13 February the teachers will be hosting a Parent Information Session in the classrooms. For all K-2 families, this takes place at 5:00pm. For all Year 3-6 Families, the presentations start at 6:00pm. All Information sessions will take place in the students' classrooms. The Information Evening for Parents provides an important opportunity to find out about the curriculum directions within the Junior School, while exploring more specific details about curriculum programmes and welfare matters within year levels. We hope to see many of you as we come together as a community for the benefit of each of the students in our care.
