Magis report 

The Semester 2 Personal Project Exhibition will be held this Wednesday, 17 November at 7:30am in A9, with breakfast being served from 7:30am in A8.  Twenty-three students will be exhibiting an exciting range of projects, and after breakfast each student will deliver a brief introduction to his or her project, after which everyone can see their fine work. A colourful project catalogue will be distributed at the exhibition.

 

 

John XXIII teams from Years 7 and 9 competed  in the National Ethics Olympiad competition this week ,with judges  from USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Both teams performed exceptionally well against very strong opposition with the Year 9  team excelling, finishing fifth in WA against multiple teams from many outstanding schools and colleges. Congratulations to team members Gemma Bailey, Meg Derbyshire, Asha Paton, Meg Cleary, and Sky Pineda from Year 9,  and Joy Cho, Charlie Pronk, Imogen Thompson, Chloe Bell and  Molly Pekin from Year 7 on their very impressive performances and great teamwork, and special thanks to Ms Daisy Farley and Ms Morgan Ball for their great work with the students.

 

International Debating concluded last Friday with a splendid win for a depleted Year 9 team, and narrow losses for the talented Years 7 and 8 teams. Students representing the college were:                         

  • Year 9:  Tom Syminton, Gemma Bailey, Hunter Giles-Shanley, Asha Paton (plus Ollie Syminton in round 4)
  • Year 8:  Amelia Watts, Thalia Kurniawan, Matthew Gardner, Callum De Andrade 
  • Year 7:  Charlie Pronk, Felicia Zhao, Tom Beach, Joy Cho, Grace Nicol

Warmest thanks to Ms Farley and Mrs Holmes for their valuable assistance to the students over the four weeks of Friday evening competitions against many top interstate schools.

 

The 2021 Magis Chronicle has now been completed. This is a glossy, hard cover book with 50 pages and over 300 photos, covering all aspects of the Magis program. The cost of the hard cover version is $50, and parents can order by simply emailing me your request.  The hard copies will arrive in about two weeks, but you can view  the chronicle now via the link below to see if you would like to order one.
