Sustainability News

Over two sessions this term, John Winter, a volunteer from The Trillion Trees Project, has worked with Ms O’Grady’s Year 10 Science class teaching them how to germinate native seeds and grow native plants from cuttings. The students have propagated over 100 cuttings from native species that are already growing on the College grounds. They have also germinated over 300 native seeds which are being raised in the greenhouse in the Sustainability Garden until they are ready to be planted out on the western bank of the College next autumn. The plants are a range of banksias, tuarts, marris, grevilleas, bottlebrushes, kangaroo paws and acacias. All are waterwise and are aimed at providing food and habitat for local fauna, especially the endangered Carnaby Black Cockatoo.

Also, as part of National Recycling Week this week, the Year 7 Homerooms have participated in an Interhouse competition to see who could bring in the most cash for containers recyclable plastic bottles, cans and glass bottles. The money raised from these containers will be donated to the Christmas Appeal. Thank you to all those students and parents who supported this initiative.
