Around The Primary

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The Ode
Dear Parents
The Remembrance Day Service held on Thursday and the reflections held in the early years’ classrooms were very special ways for our school community to remember, honour, pray for and reflect upon the sacrifices made by so many. It is so important that students have these opportunities to identify with significant events in our history. May we continue to grow in peace, tolerance, and mutual respect. Lest We Forget.
Yesterday three teams of Year 6 students participated in the IPSHA Interschool Touch Rugby Carnival held at the College. They were very excited as they got to play 7 games against 10 other schools and performed outstandingly well. Although there was no shield to be won, our teams were highly competitive and showcased their fantastic rugby skills. Having practiced with Mr Williams in both Physical Education lessons and Year 5/6 Sport, the boys and girls were well prepared and played with confidence and enthusiasm. They are also to be commended for representing the College with pride as they displayed exemplary leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Thank you to Mr Williams for preparing the students so well and Miss Graves and Miss Hubbard for their assistance on the day.
We look forward to seeing many Kindy 2022 parents and Pre-Primary 2022 parents at the Parent Information meetings next Thursday (18 November).
Kind regards,
Antoinette De Pinto
Head of Primary

Musical & Story Experiences
Our Junior Primary students were enchanted by storyteller, Rebecca Flanagan, from Musical Experiences for Children who visited our Library on Wednesday. Rebecca told the magical story of ‘The Nature Pixie’s Bush Christmas’, a story about resilience, kindness and hope in the Australian bush. The students enjoyed dancing and singing along with the marsupials and little gum nut babies. The students especially loved making a special wish for someone in their hearts and walking through the magical bubbles!
Sport Update
We had a glorious day out in the sun at the IPSHA Touch Rugby Carnival on Thursday. The College had three teams of enthusiastic Year 6 students who played extremely well all day long and showed great teamwork and sportsmanship.

The Primary Instrumental Recitals will be held during Week 7 and are an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their hard work from throughout the year.
This performance opportunity is open to students who learn an instrument. Students are invited to play one piece in the appropriate recital category (ie either a solo or group piece). Students may perform in multiple categories (for example, piano and strings) if they learn more than one instrument. These recitals will be divided into groups based on student year groups and the number of entries. Family members are invited to watch the performances. The dates for these performances are as follows:
Tuesday 23 November | 8am | Osborne Room | Year 3 Strings students |
Wednesday 24 November | 8am | Performing Arts Centre | Year 5 & Year 6 Band students |
Friday 26 November | Times TBC | Osborne Room | Piano, Strings (including Guitar), Winds, Percussion, Voice students |
Timetables will be emailed to participants at the start of Week 7.
Entry forms must be returned to the Music Department by Tuesday 16 November. Students who learn an instrument at school will be given further information by their tutors who will also complete entry forms for their students. For students who learn outside of school, parents should contact Mrs Bouhlas in the Music department via email music.secretary@johnxxiii.edu.au for an entry form or further information. Students who require an accompanist will be provided a school accompanist. A copy of the accompaniment music with the performer’s full name, class and instrument must be handed in to the Music department by Tuesday 16 November so that rehearsals can be scheduled with the accompanist in the week leading up to the recital.
We look forward to celebrating the dedication and talents of the Primary students at these special recitals.
