2022 Leadership Interviews

The Dunhelen Leadership interviews have now finished and all students who interviewed did an amazing job. Now, comes the hard part. Good luck to all nominees. We will hopefully have our 2022 captains selected next week.

Remainder of the Year

There are only two weeks of the school year left. Students were reminded that they are to keep up the positive attitude they have displayed thus far. There is still lots of learning to do and students should continue to do the best they can.

Year 9 Service Projects

Last week, the Year 9 students presented their Service Projects to a panel. Included in the panel was our Principal, Mrs Crisara and councilors from the Hume City Council. Please see the letter attached from Cr Karen Sherry.

This is the first time this subject has been undertaken at Aitken College and I am very proud to say that the students rose to the challenge. We hope that they have learnt a lot about helping the community and that many of them take these lessons with them and continue to assist others. A very big thank you to the mentors: Mr David Christofas, Miss Sarah Howells, Mr Brook Marsom, Ms Merjam Mujkanovic and Ms Sherry Sadler. I would also like to extend thanks to Mr Ben Lawless, who researched and assisted in any way he could, and of course, Mr Michael Patchell, who completed so much work to ensure that this project ran smoothly and as successfully as it did. The greatest thank you goes to the Year 9 students for such a great achievement. What follows is a list of some of things that students did:

  • Visiting Montessori Childcare Centre to conduct a science experiment with 3 year old children
  • Planting native trees at a Glenroy Park after establishing links with Moreland City Council
  • Working with Sunbury Radio station to increase their youth listener base
  • Planting wallaby grass in the science gardens at the school
  • Working closely with local supermarkets to provide food donations for the Salvation Army
  • Carrying out a litter pick in local areas
  • Working with the police to increase their profile amongst adolescents in the local area
