Green Team News!
We are very excited to announce that Old Orchard have updated our Sustainability Environmental Management Plan for the next four years.
The School Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) outlines Old Orchard Primary School's commitment to sustainability. It highlights our achievements to date and a plan for what we would like to achieve in the future.
This SEMP has been developed as part of Resource Smart Schools, which we joined in 2017. Resource Smart Schools is a Victorian Government initiative that will help our school benefit from embedding sustainability in everything we do. Our school will take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainability Victoria and Whitehorse Council have funded us to participate in Resource Smart Schools and receive facilitation support from Easter Alliance for Sustainability.
Some projects we have in mind for 2022 are to establish our frog bog, reintroduce chickens to our chicken pen and reduce canteen waste. We will also work on collecting soft plastic waste and continue our nude food campaign.
We are very proud to announce that we are officially a 3 star sustainable school and will be working on establishing our next star in 2022.
We thank you for your community support. I would also like to thank the 2021 Green Team, particularly Ryan Li, Phillip Sun, Ethan Butler, Irene Febil, Clancy Li and Gunvansh Yadav .
Did you know Whitehorse City Council want us to refer to the ARL symbols rather than the numbers on the plastic? See poster below for details.
