Education in Faith

Ash Wednesday Liturgy

Last Wednesday we gathered in the hall for an Ash Wednesday Liturgy that was prepared by our Year 6 students and teachers. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and the Liturgy was a wonderful occasion to stop and reflect.

Lent is a time to be still, to take stock, to re-evaluate our lives and the people we are becoming.  It is a time to reflect upon how we can make a difference especially to the people around us.

Ashes were distrusted at the Liturgy to remind us that if we are to share fully in Jesus’ life, we must love God and other people enough to put them before ourselves.

Project Compassion

During Lent, we are raising much needed funds to support the wonderful work of Caritas Australia. Each classroom has a Caritas box where we are collecting donations.

Each newsletter during Lent we will share a story from the work of Caritas Australia. This week we have a story about Rattanak from Cambodia.

Rattanak is a skilled young barber, living an independent life in rural Cambodia. But it wasn’t always that way. As a child he contracted polio and also became deaf. Like many people who are deaf or hard of hearing, Rattanak faced isolation, with a lack of opportunity to escape poverty. After joining the Deaf Development Program run by Caritas Australia’s partner, Maryknoll Cambodia, his life was transformed and he is now supporting himself, his wife and baby.

Please donate to Project Compassion 2018 and help deaf youth in Cambodia to build a just future, and live in communities that uphold everyone’s dignity.

A Just Future starts with your support! You can donate through Caritas boxes in the classrooms and  by visiting www.caritas.org.au/projectcompassion or phoning 1800 024 413.

Reconciliation Faith and Information Night

Last Thursday we hosted a Reconciliation Faith Night at Galilee. We had over 80 people attend the evening. Most of our Year 3 students attended with their parents. We also had some families from our two Parishes, who do not attend Galilee, with us. We worked together on a variety of activities that gave students and parents an insight into the learning that they will be involved in as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Faith Night was run by our Faith Leaders; Amy Burns and Brittany Ford. We thank Fr. Dean, Mrs. Rochecouste, Ms. Wallis and Mr. Millar who attended and supported the Faith Night. Ss. Peter and Paul Information session was held in the Galilee hall following the Faith Night and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Joseph's Information Night was held at the St. Joseph's Hall following the Faith Night. We ask you to keep the Year 3 students in your prayers as they prepare to receive this special Sacrament.
