From the Principal

I have found it disappointing and disturbing to hear the comment made by Senator Pauline Hanson in regard to how she believes autistic children should be treated and supported in our school system.  In this day and age, her comments not only show ignorance of how teachers and schools work, but also an incredibly archaic approach to education.

Here at MSJ we pride ourselves on our ability to meet the needs of all students in our community and we value and celebrate the many gifts and talents that we all bring, so that we can grow and learn together. We all have so much to offer!

I am incredibly proud of how the students embrace learning about, and responding to, social justice issues. Awareness raising activities during Reconciliation Week and Refugee and Asylum Seeker Week were organised by the College Social Justice Leaders.  These leaders have been the driving force behind these initiatives and ensure that throughout these weeks their fellow students were made aware of the needs of others and the need for us to continue to promote the dignity of all, and all to stand up for equality.

Our theme for the year ‘Come as you are’ has called us to accept, love and respect all in our community. In response to this, a day of acceptance to promote acceptance of the diverse sexualities and genders in our community and across the world was held at the College. Christ calls us to love one another, not to show hatred or bully others.  Students and staff were invited to sign a pledge of acceptance and say NO to bullying and torment due to an individuals’ sexuality or gender.

As you would be aware the Federal Government’s Gonski 2.0 legislation has been passed through Parliament.  Although some changes have been made to the original proposal there are still major concerns in regard to the impact this will have on Catholic Schools.  Please take the time to view the information contained in the following links.

Term two has been a long term, but one in which much has been achieved. I commend the large number of students who have excelled in so many areas of College life.
