Around The Primary

Dear Parents

I really hope that everyone is settling into the new term and finding a routine that works for their family. We are getting on with doing what we do best - continuing to provide a quality education for all children whether at home or school.

As parents, you are to be sincerely congratulated on all your hard work too! While dealing with your own family challenges, you have also been facilitating the learning at home and supporting our dedicated staff along the way.

Over 80% of primary students returned to school this week and are happy, enthusiastic and engaged in their learning. These students have been helped and encouraged by excellent teaching and support staff. Likewise, those who are learning from the comfort of their homes have been supported and engaged by their teachers and parents. A truly collaborative effort from our community.

Teachers are most effective in leading teaching and learning when they are able to focus on each child’s learning needs. They do this best by creating opportunities for children to be challenged and supported in their learning journey within the school environment.

From Monday 11 May, students who come to school will be taught directly by their regular teacher and follow the class timetable.  For those students at home, there will be some changes to the home learning program. Learning plans and online resources will be posted on Seesaw and Teams each day (packs will not be sent home). Teachers will provide written instructions on Seesaw and parents will need to read through the plan for the day with their child/ren and then facilitate the learning. As it is important that students remain connected to their school, staff will maintain regular contact with students and families.

The College respects whatever decision you make about your child’s attendance.  To assist teachers with planning and preparation for next week, please email primary.absentees@johnxxiii.edu.au and also the class teacher/s to confirm if your child/ren is not returning to school on Monday and will be working from home.

Thinking of all our Mums and Grandmothers this Mother’s Day and sending you our very best wishes!

May your special day be filled with all that makes you smile and may you be surrounded with lots of love and be blessed with many special moments.

The students from Year 1G have prepared this lovely Mother’s Day message for us all to enjoy!

Enjoy the weekend!

Kind regards

Look Who Got Caught Reading!

‘The greatest gift is the passion for reading’, Elizabeth Hardwick.

Our reading theme for this term is ‘Look Who Got Caught Reading. We love to read!’

Our goal is to ignite the students’ love of reading and open up a world of opportunities for them to learn, imagine, escape and create.

Students are encouraged to read each day both at home and at school.  By exposing them to different genres and engaging in rich conversation about how they feel about the story-line, the characters and the authors intention, will support them to make connections to the text.

We will add photos of students reading at school to our display and would love some photos from home too! If you catch your child tucked away reading a good book, please send through a photo to nancy.petsos@cewa.edu.au for our display.
