S A K & Garden

Alba Gomez- Stephanie Alexander Garden Specialist

I just blew in from the windy city, the windy city is mighty pretty but it aint got what Kingswood Primary got. Yes the winds over the last week have been hard on our plants, lots of branches have fallen down, but thankfully, all is well in our garden.  At the moment, we are clearing the garden for the next planting. This is a good time to add nutrients to the  soil and let it rest for a few weeks. Watching the SAKG garden change over the year is very exciting and creates curiosity amongst the students. By planting different vegetables and herbs, students are also exposed to new foods .

Currently, we are creating a herb garden walkway in between the portables and are also starting to plant  spinach and lettuce.

I have  also  introduced a ‘Community Garden Morning’  which took place this Wednesday. This is to help with weeding and general gardening. This will not be every Wednesday, just when the garden needs a little more attention than usual.  These sessions are a great introduction to our SAKG program and also a good way to meet other members of the Kingswood Primary School Community.

I  would like to say a big thank you to Adrian Aw, Belinda Simmons , Jaqui Schneeberger, Melanie Inglis, Charli Prep C, Phoebe  Prep H, Myat Khuang and Liz Scott. Also a big thank you to Sonia Nista for providing a morning tea of scones for our volunteers. Future dates for the  Wednesday community morning in the garden will be posted on Compass.

Happy Gardening from Alba Gomez
