March 25th Feast of the Annunciation

“Hail Mary, full of grace.

The Lord is with thee…”

The Annunciation (also called the Feast of the Annunciation) celebrates the announcement given by the archangel Gabriel to Mary that she would conceive and give birth to the Son of God. The feast is observed on March 25th, which is nine months before the Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus.

The Annunciation also has a special connection with Marian Catholic College as our Vision Statement mentions “Embracing Mary’s way of courageous acceptance, we fulfil Christ’s promise of “The Way, The Truth, The Life”, in a dynamic and diverse learning environment.”

This certainly doesn’t mean just saying “yes” to anything that gets presented to us, in actual fact it means the opposite! It demands discernment and action to be the best we can and to overcome fear and desire to accept second best. Our Mother Mary isn’t the only one who is Spirit filled, Mary’s willing consent (“Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word”), speaks to us in a way that we can live our daily life well here at school knowing that the Spirit is with us.

For Christians everywhere, the Annunciation can be a reminder of the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers as we are transformed into a people filled and guided by spirit.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Marian Catholic College Parent Council AGM was held last Monday evening. On behalf of the College community I would like to thank outgoing Chairperson Mr Michael Ryan for his service and support to the school over the last six years, five of them leading the Council. Under his leadership the College has seen many improvements to student facilities and his legacy will be visible for years to come as the completion of the College Master Plan for buildings will be the blueprint for further growth and expansion.

Also departing the Council is Mr Simon Aventi. Simon has been both Staff Representative and a Parent Rep and has also completed a six year term. Mrs Tracey Davidson also steps down. Thank you for your time and energy as you contributed to discussions at our meetings.

New Parent Council Representatives are Anthony Salmon and Ralph Twaddell.  The 2019 Parent Council is

Lindy Golden (Chairperson), Stewart McMaster (Deputy Chairperson), Anthony Salmon (Secretary), Maria Previtera, Ralph Twaddell, Trevor Dal Broi, Will Lyon (Staff Rep), Fr Grace (representing Chaplain, Fr Christian),  Joanne Smith (Business Manager), Alan Le Brocque (Principal).

Peace and Best Wishes
