Uniform

This term all students must be in full Summer uniform, with the exception of P.E. days and Fridays.  On P.E. days and Fridays, students are to wear the correct Sport uniform.  A reminder that the rugby top is part of the Sport uniform and can be worn on P.E days and Fridays.  The microfibre zip jacket can only be worn over the woollen jumper (worn with Winter uniform) for extra warmth, and on P.E days.  The microfibre zip jacket does not replace the woollen jumper.  Please read the attached Uniform Policy (also found on the School website) which includes a link to a copy of the note that will be communicated home if students are not in correct uniform.

Term One Overviews

Please take some time to read over the Term One Overviews. The Overviews contain information regarding the learning that will occur in each year level this term. They also contain important dates and events that families will need to be aware of. We have published the Overviews on our School Website so that you can refer to them throughout the term. Term Two Overviews will be published within the first three weeks on next term.

Swimming Lesson Friday Yr. 3-6

Tomorrow, Friday 16th February, Year 3-6 students will need to bring additional clothing (t-shirt and shorts that can get wet) to participate in a rescue lesson. They still need their bathers under school clothes and bring the extra clothing in their swimming bag.

School Photos

School photos are taking place on Thursday 22nd February.  Photo orders will be done online using the individualised details that were sent home this week.  If you have not received these details, you must contact the class teacher.  If your child has P.E. on Thursday, they will need to bring their runners in a bag.  ALL students must be in full Summer uniform on the day.

Events and Social Committee

First Meeting 2018

Our first meeting of 2018 will be held on Tuesday 20th February at 7:30pm at the Montague Hotel, South Melbourne.  All parents are welcome to come along and hear what it is all about and enjoy a chat afterwards.  For new families to Galilee, the Committee’s two main aims are:

1. To hold events that bring our school community together in a variety of ways that are inclusive and varied.

2. To fundraise about $20 000 for the school annually.

It would be great to see some new faces there!

Welcome Picnic

The Welcome Picnic was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all those who attended (over 300 throughout the evening).  A huge thank you to Simon Millar and all the teachers who stayed back late to spend the evening with families.  It was lovely seeing you all there.

Thank you to the Wize family who brought along their WVRST Artisan Sausages and made a generous donation to the school from their sales of $120 and to Pizza Party Hire who again donated $152 back to the school as a percentage from their sales.  Whilst the Welcome Picnic was not a fundraising event, by running a bar on the evening and the icy pole stand we raised approximately $1000.  A huge thank you to the volunteers on the evening.  It is only by parents generously volunteering their time that makes these events possible.

Coles Sports for School

Over the next few weeks Galilee will be participating in the Coles Sports for Schools program. For every $10 spent on shopping at any Coles Supermarket you are able to receive 1 voucher. The more vouchers the school collects the more sport equipment and resources the school will be able to receive. This promotion will be available until April 3rd, 2018. All vouchers must be at school by the end of April.

Vouchers can be handed to classroom teachers each morning where they will be collected and counted every couple of days by the Year 5 students. The year level that collects the most vouchers will receive a prize at the end of the collection period.

Happy Shopping!

Bay Street Music Festival - November 2017/2018

A message from Natalya Vagner

Musical Director & Bay Street Festival Coordinator

Dear teachers, parents, students and colleagues!

We have had to make a very difficult decision to postpone our Music Festival to November 2018.

As you all know we were forced to cancel our festival last year due to forecasted EXTREME weather. Unfortunately, last minute cancellation meant we lost our funding.

As a result we don’t have a BIG STAGE and microphones for you all to perform on; and we know that you all love a big stage to shine and show your voices.

We would love to run our Festival properly and give you all an opportunity to perform on a Big Stage and shine your best. Therefore we are postponing the event to end of November 2018 and will seek funding in the mean time to make the festival even BIGGER than in previous years!

Welcome you all back to the new school year 2018. We wish you all a fantastic year and time to prepare your choirs and ensembles for the biggest community and musical competition in Port Melbourne this year.
