YEAR 8 VISUAL ARTS NEWS
For the past few weeks Mrs Cox’ year 8 Visual Arts students have been studying Pop Art. Along with their studies and articles they have created a range of awesome Pop art style sculptures using various materials including clay, paper mache, cardboard and found objects and materials. The photos here show some objects under construction as well as some of the finished products.
CAPA Excursion - Melbourne
In week six of this term, students and staff from the Creative Arts department visited Melbourne for 2 days and 1 night. We arrived at the Melbourne Metro YHA on Thursday afternoon and dressed up ready for Dinner on Lygon street. That evening, everyone was amazed by the incredible performance of Beautiful, the Carole King musical at Her Majesty’s Theatre.
Friday morning we were all dropped off at the Art Gallery for our separate workshops. This whole area has an amazing variety of opportunities for Creative and performing arts students.
Music students attended a composition workshop with Mr Segrave using the software program Sibelius at the Melbourne Arts centre. This is a program we have at school and all students were able to create a piece of music using a variety of instruments and features of Sibelius.
The Drama students attended a NIDA workshop with Miss Calabria which focussed on improvisation and devising group performances. The students who participated were from Year 9 all the way to Year 12. It was great opportunity for the students to step outside their comfort zone and work with students from different year levels to expand their current skill base.
Before lunch Visual Arts students accompanied by Mrs Cox walked through a range of streets and alleys in Melbourne looking at a range of graffiti art; some highly professional, others more ammature but most very interesting and effective. After lunch we explored the gallery and found some very exciting works.
A big thank you to Mrs Calabria and Mrs Cox for their support and guidance in their specialist areas on the excursion.
