Jack Jumpers inspire students' Basketball

We are an accredited Move Well Eat Well School

The Tasmanian Jack Jumpers are Tassie’s professional basketball team who took the nation by surprise in their first season by placing second overall. After waiting many, many years for the state to have a team in the NBL, the Tasmanian community wholeheartedly jumped on board to support their team and stadiums were regularly packed out.

The Jack Jumpers are a great example of the under dog who almost toppled the leaders but regardless of their second place efforts, came out triumphant and with the whole state behind them. This is the power of sport. It creates a ground swell of support, loyalty and pride as we go on the journey with our team.

Our state athletes and coaches inspire our kids right down to the grass roots school level. It is with the Jack Jumpers in mind that we started basketball last week.

Our the next few weeks we will learn and practice shooting, dribbling, defending, passing and agility. We already have some students who have skills in basketball and they have been sharing these skills with the class. It was terrific to see our Preps dribbling around the court confidently in the first week. Perhaps one day we might see a John Paul II student make it into the Jack Jumpers team.

For now we will channel the team as we develop our own skills and understanding of a sport that is heaps of fun and is providing sporting role models for our students and community.
