Art Show

Congratulations to all involved in Tuesday’s art show. The school looked amazing with all of the children’s art work and the weather was kind on the night which led to a wonderful atmosphere. Prize winners will be announced at tomorrow’s assembly. Once again a massive congratulations to all of our students on their beautiful artwork, and thanks and gratitude to the staff, parents carers and donors who made the night such a success. The show will be open until the end of this term if you have not had a chance to take a look yet. Also our silent auction will be open until 8pm Friday 9th September.

Fire Department Visit

The Foundation students had their first fire safety session run by the Melbourne fire department. Students learned about how to stay safe in the event of a fire, and they also learned about the duties and equipment of a firefighter. There will be a second foundation visit by the MFB next Thursday when we will have a fire engine on site which is always a great experience.

Fire Drill

Today we had a fire drill at the end of lunch. We do this each term to comply with with Department of Education OH&S guidelines and prepare our staff and students in the event of an actual fire. All students did a great job! This week would be a great opportunity to speak with your child/ren about emergency evacuations and what they would look like and sound like in different community spaces.

ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools)

Over the past few weeks, 22 CNPS students have taken part in the ICAS within the areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee and Digital Technologies. Congratulations to these students for demonstrating resilience, persistence and positivity whilst taking on this challenge.

We have seen some wonderful results back already with all children receiving awards – ranging from participations to high distinctions. These students will start to receive their awards at this Friday’s Assembly.

NAPLAN

All Year 3 and Year 5 students should have received their NAPLAN results this week. We congratulate the students on the completion of these assessments for another year.

Marnerlong Toilet Works

The refurbishment of our junior bathrooms is starting next Monday.  The project will run for approximately 6 weeks, expecting to be finished by Friday 21 October. This coming Friday, some temporary fencing will be set up between the two buildings in front of Wandha Yagila (the outdoor learning space), and in front of the doors leading to the Marnerlong building and bathrooms.  There will still be space on the asphalt to walk across to the double doors on the Year 1/2 deck for entrance to the building. Students will still have access to Wandha Yagila and to the Karawun building. They will also line up in different areas and will use the senior student bathrooms and accessible toilets in the Marnerlong building for the duration of the project. Staff will support students to adjust to the new process for the duration of the works. A map showing the location of the works area and alternative toilets was sent home via Compass today.

Feedback Requested on Marnerlong Toilets

The question has been raised within the community as to whether the Marnerlong bathrooms should be non-gendered, aligned with all other toilets in the school.  The bathrooms will be mirror images of each other, i.e. 4 cubicles, no urinal; and the specifications of the cubicles will meet the standard for non-gendered use. We would like students to have a say in whether we do this, and intend to get the thoughts of students, especially those in Foundation to Year 4, over the coming week. We also invite comment and feedback from parents and carers. This way school leadership and school council will be able to make an informed decision about this issue.
