Annie Jordan (class of 2010)

Those who read the April 2022 edition of the Alma Mater would recognise that Annie (Holborow) Jordan belongs to a St Mary’s College dynasty. Her maternal grandmother, Mrs Anne Stanfield, taught at the College for decades, much of that time as Head of the Junior School, Deputy Principal of the College and Principal of the College. Annie’s mother, Joanne (Stanfield) Holborow has also been employed at the College for many years and has been the Administrative Officer (Junior School) for most of them. Both Annie and her sister Sophie (class of 2015) were educated at the College. This family, including Annie’s baby daughter April, featured on the front cover of the Alma Mater earlier this year.

Annie Joined Year 1 at St Mary’s in 1999. She has fond memories from her younger days, of pastoral care lessons spent with Sister Doreen, but otherwise all her teachers were lay people. Sister Barbara Amott has always been a dear and close friend of Annie’s family, almost a defacto member, who is present at all the important moments in their lives.

Throughout her school days, Annie played hockey and basketball, while in her secondary years she also participated in debating and in St Vincent de Paul: in different years she held the positions of treasurer and secretary of her Vinnies conference. Annie was a committed member of College House.

Many friendships were formed throughout Annie’s years at the College, and blossomed into enduring friendships post-school. Like Annie, these friends are now starting their families and new friendships are being forged among their little ones.

Among Annie’s memories of favourite times at school are Economics classes in the Mary Morgan Wing kitchen with Mr Gaynor, Food and Nutrition with Mrs Maver, Sociology with Mrs Claridge and Recreation with Mrs Mann. Her standout memories are of Years 11/12, a time of smaller classes and the opportunity to build relationships with a variety of classmates and teachers.

Annie says that being a St Mary’s girl is a major part of who she is today and that she continues to strongly hold the values and skills which were instilled in her throughout her education here. For Annie, one of the pleasures of now teaching at St Mary’s is passing on this ethos to her students, whom she teaches just what it means to be a St Mary’s girl!

Annie completed a Bachelor of Education at UTAS, graduating in 2014. She then taught at Dominic College 2015-17 as a Year 1 teacher. In 2018 she returned home to St Mary’s College, teaching Year 1 in 2018, and Year 5 since 2019, as well as a term in Year 3 in 2021 prior to maternity leave.

In 2017 Annie married Chris Jordan and together they had baby daughter April on 4 May 2021. The couple have travelled extensively over the years (2014-19) including to the US, New Zealand, Hawaii, New Caledonia, Singapore and Bali.

Annie has returned to part-time teaching in recent times, which along with mothering April, keeps her very busy.
