SASS Recognition Week
This week all public and high schools celebrate School Administration and Support Staff (SASS) Recognition Week. Can I just say, schools would not operate effectively without our amazing SASS staff. Chris and Anne, thank you for everything you do to support the smooth operations of our school and to support the students and staff so well. We are lucky to have you in our school. Thanks again!
Building Update
The building has been braced to make it safe for inspectors to carry out assessments of the building. I am meeting with representatives from the Department of Education after the holidays to develop a plan. I will communicate any new developments with you as they come to hand. I again apologise for the large generator at the front of the school. This is being used to power the school as the current system was overloading with the new buildings needing more energy. Work will be carried out on providing the school with three-phase power as soon as possible. Once this occurs, the generator will be taken away, Thanks for your patience!
Book Week and Assembly
We are a little late.. but we will hold our Book Week Parade and Assembly on Monday with dress up and assembly in the afternoon. Students are invited to come to school dressed as a book character. We welcome everyone to come along and join us from 2.15pm.
We will be accepting cash gold coin donations at the assembly, as well as selling some merchandise to raise money for Red Nose Day. Merchandise is limited and will be sold on a first come first served basis. It includes:
- 10 x click pen ($5 each)
- 15 x red nose ($3 each)
- 6 x 10cm plush toys ($5 each)
Parents visiting the assembly on Monday can also show support by wearing silly socks if they wish.
Here is some information about Red Nose Day and what the funds raised contribute to.
Funds raised on Red Nose Day over the last 30 years have resulted in an incredible 85 per cent reduction in sudden infant deaths. That’s 11,357 babies saved and counting. Red Nose Day sparked a global movement and catalysed research into the reasons why babies die suddenly in their sleep. And because of that, we now have six evidence-based steps all parents can take to reduce the risk of their baby dying in their sleep. None of this would have been possible without the incredible public support for Red Nose Day.
But the fight must continue. And we still need your help.
Because more than 3,000 babies still die suddenly and unexpectedly each year in Australia. We are losing them to stillbirth and SIDS among other things.
3,000 little lives taken before they’ve had the chance to grow up – that's 9 little lives taken every single day. And 9 Australian families devastated, every single day.
Spelling Bee Regional Finals
Congratulations to Dominic and Charlotte Tobler on representing our school at the Regional Spelling Bee finals last week. Both students made it to the 5th and 4th round respectively which is a great achievement.
North West Athletics
Congratulations also to our students who attending the North West Athletics Carnival last week in very wet and miserable conditions.
NAPLAN Results
Results for this year's NAPLAN have arrived in schools and these will be distributed to parents tomorrow. Please remember that if you have any questions, please contact us at the school.
Biggest Child Safety Lesson
All students participated in Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson yesterday in the online event. There were two workshops, one for Lower Division and one for Upper Division. The workshops focus on how to be safe in the modern world both in online situations and face to face situations. The theme for this year was "Recognise, React and Report". These workshops will back on to our “Day for Daniel” which we will hold next term.
Creative Arts Day at Rocky River
We have organised a creative arts workshop in conjunction with NERAM and NECOM for next Thursday, 15th September. Kellys Plains students will also be here to join us for the day. Due to this event our P&C will offer the 'special lunch'for this day instead of the Wednesday and invite the Kelly's Plains students to order lunch as well. They will advise what the menu will be later this week.
Long Servcie Leave
Just a reminder that I will be on leave in week 10. Katie, the girls and I are travelling to Cairns, a trip we were supposed to do last year for Katie’s 40th birthday, but were unable to due to border restrictions. Jess Fortescue will relieve as Principal while I am away. In the mean-time, I look forward to a great end of term!
Have a great week!
