Community by Design, Enrichment day

On Thursday the 1st of September, a small group of year 10 attended a ‘Community by Design’ Enrichment day.

The day was designed to explore the impact of loneliness in our local community. To begin the day we listened to Dr Michelle Lim (Chairperson and Scientific Chair of Ending Loneliness Together, Director of Social Health and Wellbeing (SHAW) Laboratory, Swinburne University, and co-author of the Australian Loneliness Report, 2018) who explained what loneliness is and how prominent it is in our community.

We then heard from a panel of community leaders as they discussed their experiences with loneliness in the Bayside area. The next session saw us work in groups with students from other local schools to design a potential solution for loneliness in the Bayside area. The day was aimed at educating youth about what loneliness is, the significant impact it can have and what we can do to decrease it.

The day was also a great way to interact and collaborate with other schools and we look forward to being part of another design day soon.
