School News

We said a massive "Welcome Back" to all our students and families after Remote Learning and School Holidays. The students and staff have all settled back into regular classes and have been enjoying their last term of 2021.

BSC Hands on Learning

Our Hands on Learning students have completed construction of the levelled section, on which the school worm farm now sits. All the special worm bins have now been moved into place outside the Link Corridor.

The Hands on Learning program has also been working closely with Trawalla Primary School to create new additions for their sensory garden. Our students have created planter boxes that will act as train carriages in the garden. Emily and Gazelle have also begun working with Ms Moore to create a mosaic artwork on a large bird bath.

Year 9/10 History

At Beaufort Secondary College, our students enjoy challenging each other on an online quiz website called Kahoot. This adds some extra fun to learning and helps with revision of the different topics that are covered in class. In Year 9/10 History, the students battled each other on an Industrial Revolution Kahoot. The "Dream Team" of Tasha Saunders and Eric Wilkinson (Teric Tilkinson) took out first place!

Year 8 Art

It has been great to see students back in action in the art room; painting, printmaking and using drawing techniques to create wonderful artworks. Pictured below are the artworks created by some of the Year 8 students.

Year 9/10 Celebrating Cooking

Ms McGregor's Year 9/10 Celebrating Cooking class has been diligently working on their traditional fruit cakes for Christmas. The students will be following an intricate process to create these cakes just in time for Christmas!

Fruit was prepared by cutting and soaking it, before baking the cake in the oven for 2.5 hours. The next steps in creating these wonderful cakes saw the students draping almond paste and white icing. Decorating techniques of piping, moulding and flooding will be used to embellish the fruit cake before the final presentation. Ms McGregor's Celebrate Cooking class cannot wait to share their final products with you!

Car wash fundraiser

On Tuesday, 9th November, the Year 11 VCAL students held a car wash to raise money for their business start-up project. Throughout the day, the students washed the vehicles of staff members, charging $15 per wash.

Around 14 cars received a wash, which raised over $200. The Year 11 VCAL students hope to raise enough money in their future fundraisers to be able to purchase their own coffee machine. With this, our students will be able to learn barista skills, and develop their skills in business management.

Lawn Mower Rebuild

"What started out as a rust bucket not holding revs and blowing out smoke, quickly changed when three Year 11 VCAL students took it to pieces. We found several broken pieces, such as the manifold, and the spark plug lead.  We tried to repair the manifold but it cracked again. So we had another mower with the same engine as the mower that was now in pieces, took the parts we needed off the broken mower, then cleaned them all and rebuilt the good mower. Then it was time to try it out! We took it outside and she started first kick. It took a lot of patience and time but we were not going to give up on it and our hard work paid off."
