Across the Principal's Desk

It’s strange to think that we are heading into the last month of the year. The world has just not been operating in a ‘normal’ way but time has continued to ‘tick on’ and we find ourselves considering end of year celebrations and what might be on the list for Christmas. We have lots happening over the next month. Next week we will present some student awards, which was something that we wanted to do at the beginning of Term Three but couldn’t for obvious reasons. We have exams coming up and our Headstart program for our Year 10 and 11 students. We also have our camps program to deliver as we get closer to end of the year, which provides exciting and adventurous opportunities for our students. We will end the year off with presentation sessions for all year levels to acknowledge the many achievements of our students.

Congratulations to our Year 12 students who have done an amazing job in completing their secondary years of education under difficult circumstances due to the impact of COVID-19. However, we are now at the point where our VCE students have finished exams and our VCAL students have completed their studies. They are now ready to step out into the world and make their contribution – some have already started!

Our Year 12 students been involved in some ‘rites of passage’ even though the timing of events has had to be altered due to COVID disruptions. The evening before their final presentation to the staff and students, they ‘decorated’ the school in some funny and witty ways but, importantly, all was done very respectfully and in an entertaining manner. I think this speaks to the caliber of our young people and the strong relationships we have with them. Our staff and Year 12 students enjoyed breakfast together the next morning in the Student Centre, the atmosphere buzzing with chat and laughter. Their presentation to the rest of the school was very colourful, with some incredible outfits and dance routines and more laughs. They joined the staff for morning tea before heading off to continue their study for exams. We’re looking forward to having a ‘COVID friendly’ graduation event to celebrate the completion of their secondary studies and to farewell a wonderful group of students.
