9-12 Community News

The last day of Term 3 brings to a close another interesting period for the 9-12 Community. The final few weeks of the term have been a challenge as we moved from the celebration of the House Athletics into the uncertainty of lockdown and remote learning and, in this last week, the return of our Year 12 (and some Year 11) students back to the classrooms. And, while the Year 12s were happy to return to school, our Years 9 and 10 students continued to work studiously from home. Well done to all of the students who have persevered through the challenges that these weeks have presented.

For staff, one of the features of each year is the way in which we see students mature and develop as they progress. While this year has seen some ups and downs, one of the most impressive aspects of the growth that our students have shown has been in the way in which our Year 12, and particularly the student leaders, have shown great leadership and spirit. Our student leaders have been instrumental in a number of activities and initiatives over the Remote Learning period to help keep students engaged and stay connected. Thank you to our leaders for the ‘Lock Down Olympic Challenge’ and to our Year 11 Students for their contribution to RUOK? Day.

All members of the 9-12 Community will be looking forward to the holiday break. We encourage all of our students to enjoy the break and come back refreshed and ready to go. There are many things to look forward to. For our Year 12s, they enter the final stretch of their school careers. On their return to school in Term 4, an Exam Practice Program has been arranged for students in the first weeks of term. Beyond the invaluable assistance and guidance that subject teachers are providing, over the break, we encourage students to speak to their teachers for their recommendations on ways to enhance their study and  make use of the variety of resources available to them, within school and externally. The VCAA website provides past examination papers and examiners reports for each subject. The College’s Edrolo subscription provides access to complementary course and revision material for most of our VCE subject areas.

For those students wishing to apply for tertiary studies once they finish Year 12, the VTAC application process is an important point of discussion. An important aspect of this process is the SEAS (Special Entry Access Schemes) application. SEAS allows students to indicate if they have had circumstances that have had a negative impact upon their studies. Mrs Anderson will have discussed these applications with students and families and is available to provide further support and answer any queries in relation to SEAS applications.

In relation to the impact of Covid-19 on students in Year 12, schools will be providing an assessment on the impact of the pandemic on each student in a Unit 3 & 4 study. This process is called CED (Consideration of Educational Disadvantage).

If you have any questions about any aspect of the details of SEAS applications or the final stages of the academic year, please contact the school.

For the Year 11s, we look forward to the formation of our 2022 Leadership Team. Thank you to those who have put forward their applications and nominations. Once we return to the College we will be conducting interviews and voting will take place. In November we will be working with Darren Periera from Success Integrated and all students will be participating in the “Leadership Challenge’ workshop in preparation for their final year at school.

We look forward to also welcoming back our Years 9 and 10 students who will start the process of Elective Subject selection and being provided with information about their chosen VCE Fast Track Subjects or VET subject selections for 2022.  We aim to rebook some of the presentations that had been scheduled for Term 3, pending operational guidelines and restrictions for Term 4.

Lastly, a reminder that the full transition to the New College Uniform commences at the start of Term 4. Full details of the requirements have been sent to all families. Please refer to this correspondence should you have any questions and please don’t hesitate to get in contact with your child's TA should you have any questions. Hats are compulsory during Term 4.

We wish you all a restful break and are excited to see our students in their ‘neat and complete’ uniform when we return in Term 4.
