Uniform Transition in Term 4

Next term will see the official change over to the new college uniform. Many of our students already have all the items, while some still have the school shoe or a small amount of other items to purchase. If your family is in need of support, please reach out to your child’s TA, the college intends to support families with this transition, especially given the times we find ourselves in.

One way that the College will support families who are concerned about the financial impact of new purchases will be to make concessions for items that are virtually the same as the older uniform items.  There are three uniform items that have only a very minor change.  These include the school dress, the College woollen jumper and the College hat.  Whilst we would prefer to have all new uniform items, if these items still fit and are in good condition they do not need to be replaced. The College skirt and pinafore are exactly the same as the old uniform so will also not need to be replaced. These are the only items that this will apply to, as other items are significantly different.

I am aware that there may be some people who feel that it would have been better to wait until next year for this changeover. There are many families who have already purchased what they needed in readiness for this changeover and it would have been very unfair to them to make changes. As always, our College will support those who need additional support and those conversations are best held between the parent and their child’s TA. Please be mindful that there is no tradeoff in terms of what the College values. Supporting the process of transitioning to a new uniform does not mean that the College places a lower value on supporting students and their learning or wellbeing. This is simply our College remaining true to the process.  Please also be aware that changing a uniform is a process that is undertaken by a committee. This occurred in 2018 and the college honours the dedication of those on that committee who made decisions about a suitable uniform for our students going forward. Communication with your child’s TA should be about whether you need support for the uniform rollout. Please understand that your child’s TA (or indeed any other member of staff) are not in a position to undermine the process of the committee who made this decision some time ago.
