From the Chaplain

Rev. Dr Rosalie Clarke

Greetings all

As we begin to enjoy the warmer weather, it is a good time to remember the breath of life within us that is connected to the Holy Spirit, which we sometimes describe as the breath of God.

Through God in Spirit, all things were created and all things are sustained.

Dr Edwin Hatch of Oxford wrote a hymn in 1886 entitled Breathe on me, Breath of God.

Breathe on me, Breath of God
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love the way you love,
And do what you would do.

Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until my will is one with yours,
To do and to endure.

Focusing on breath, in many traditions, is a practice that draws us back into the present. It brings an awareness of where we are and what we need to turn our attention to. Asking God to inspire us through God’s Spirit is a source of calm and leads to peace as we entrust our lives and our efforts to our Creator.

Have a refreshing school holiday.

Many blessings,

Rosalie
