Principal's News

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to everyone for Term 4. During Term 3 and beginning this term we welcomed the following children into our school community: Caleb McDougall & Emy DeRoia into Grade1, Charlotte Phillips & Thor Medley into Grade 2, and Cy Rooney (back from Darwin) into Grade 4. We are delighted to welcome all of these children and their families into our school community and trust that they will enjoy many happy and fruitful years with us at Sacred Heart.

This week too, we welcome back ….ME!

I feel like I’m the only Victorian that has had a decent holiday over the last 2 years but I am happy to report that I was able to get away on Long Service Leave to tow my caravan up to Darwin, across to Broome, to Perth and then finally home again as planned. I was extremely fortunate with my timing and feel very blessed to have been able to do so. Quite a few parents have already welcomed me back, and I now understand, the need I had, to take a break. It’s been very good for me.

I would also like to let you know that I have run into plenty of parents in the last 2 weeks who didn’t even realise I’d been gone! - Just shows how lucky we are to have leaders like Jane Daffy and a staff like ours.

While it’s only the children from Foundation to Year 2 who are physically at school this week it was so uplifting for me to watch them come into school this morning. Gee it does you good.

Thank you to all parents, carers and grandparents who have had to do so much to support their children’s education during this latest lockdown. It’s been a huge effort. This will pass though. It will one day be a memory. So while it’s frustrating and tough, try to make some enjoyable memories too. No other generation of parents have had to do what you are doing. But then again no other generation has been given this opportunity with their children either.

We cannot wait for our students to all be back on site. For the time being, we look forward to our Grade 3 & 4 students joining us each Tuesday and Wednesday beginning NEXT Tuesday, October 12, and we can then welcome our Grade 5 & 6 students on Thursdays and Fridays commencing NEXT Thursday, October 14.

It is my understanding that we are looking to have all students back on site together from Tuesday, October 26. However, this pandemic has taught us nothing if not the need to be flexible and ready to change plans without a great deal of warning. So we will plan accordingly and watch this space.

As people of hope, we look forward with optimism to the term ahead and the chance for us to all resume the small and precious routines and joys of living in a beautiful country like Australia. The routines of work and school, the joys of spending time with loved ones.

We give thanks for our wonderful health care workers, police officers, firies & ambos who are doing their best to protect and care for our people.

We give thanks too, for the shelf stackers, the truck drivers, the tradies who make the water run, the lights come on and our houses safe.

For the farmers who produce our food, the clerks that keep all in check

For those that care for our elderly, our children & those that require extra care & support to enjoy a full & fruitful life here in this Great South Land

We look ever forward and ask your blessing, Lord, on our common future

Amen
