News

Fantastic news this week that will see our 5/6 class back at school full time from this Friday! Thanks for all your support over this long lockdown. As mentioned in my latest email, we will try and have a bit of fun with the students on their return. I know there are several Fun Friday activities planned already and we will be doing some extra activities, such as the Stride for Education run.

Literacy

Reading groups have changed slightly this term and all students are reading another novel with their group. Please continue to encourage your child to read at home. It's a great habit and will improve their skills. I would also encourage parents to listen to their child read occasionally as this will help with their fluency. Give them feedback.

Maths

As mentioned in my email, we will have a focus on Number & Algebra this term. We will put a focus on the fundamental skills in maths to try and give the students a nice platform for next year. The 4/5/6 teachers will send home an A3 Times Tables laminate this week. I have told students to put it in the toilet or the shower or the roof above their bed! Wherever they can see it! A good understanding of these multiplication facts will aid your child immensely.

Religion

We continue to look at Life Relationships which has been a challenge remotely. Today students started to get into the awkward content of body systems, including the reproductive systems. They are watching a few videos today and we will follow up with some laughs and fun on this topic tomorrow when we are back at school. A parent/child night will be on at some stage during the middle of this term. We'll look at restrictions to see how best to deliver this. If your child asks you some weird questions tonight, please don't be alarmed! The whole point of this unit is to encourage conversation.

Inquiry

We have a science focus this term. We did a great experiment with cornflour and water last Friday to explore solids and liquids and how what we observe isn't always as it seems. This was messy but we were out in the sun and had fun.
