Principal's message

Hi all,

We are back at last, and what a sight it was to see all our students onsite at the same time.  Seeing students bound through the gates to see their friends and come back to school was a superb sight.  I know I have said it a few times before, but thank you again to our parents who have done a fantastic job supporting and teaching their children over what has really been a challenging time.

Information from DET has changed in a short amount of time, so again we will keep you informed of the changes as they happen.  We were informed late Sunday that as of next Monday, November 1, we will revert, I guess, to what will become normal.  School events are back on, visitors are allowed onsite, and camps, sports and excursions can resume. COVID safe practices will be mandatory, as will the regulations on face masks and vaccinations. Fortunately, the year 5/6 Camp can go ahead, which I am really looking forward to.

I want to take this opportunity also to talk about our upcoming Curriculum Day (Pupil Free) on Friday, November 12.  We have discussed the day and whether to continue at length, both at the school and school council levels.  We have decided to continue with the day for several strategic reasons, which I will list below, and please know that we have not made this decision lightly.  We have had to cancel this day on two previous occasions.  Due to the COVID restrictions, we are running considerably behind on our key improvement strategies from our Strategic Plan.  We have managed at last to have our key literacy programs and structures delivered and now in place, however we have not been able to do this with numeracy.  By continuing with the day, we can set up the essential programs and structures we want to see in numeracy and therefore have everything in place for the beginning of 2022.  Thank you in advance for your support with this.  I will also send out communication through Compass.

Another positive outcome is that we are now able to proceed with plans for our Year 6 Graduation.  Again COVID safe regulations will be in place; however, the fact that we can now hold one is great news.  Confirmation of dates and times will be out shortly, so please keep an eye out.

As always, please be assured that we are working extremely hard on improving all aspects of the school.  A considerable element of this is receiving feedback from our parents on how you feel we are doing and your thoughts on how you think we can improve, so please, if you have any feedback, send it through to me at dean.clements@education.vic.gov.au

Have a great week, everyone.

Regards

Dean
