New -Dreamtime Storytelling
This term the Year 1 and 2s have been learning about Creation. They have learnt about the Gospel story of Creation from Genesis.
Last Wednesday the children in Year 1 and 2 learnt about the Dreamtime story called How the Murray River Was Made.

We met Tina, our Koori Worker, and Mrs Dyke at the sandpit.
Tina retold the story and used a digging stick to pretend to be the old woman.
Then she drew a line in the sand. Tina told the children about how the Rainbow Serpent followed the line the old woman had made in the sand, carving out a windy path. It was deep in some sections and shallow in others. Then the rain came.
The children poured water along the path that they had made in the sand. This was to represent the water flowing along the river.
Tina explained that this dreamtime story has been told for about 60,000 years. It was told by the elders to children to help explain how the land was created.
The children now understand how story telling has been around for a very long time to explain how various land forms and animals were made.
