Sporting Stars Virtual Visit 

Obviously, COVID has restricted school activities recently. The Year 10 Coaching and Advanced Fitness (CAAF) and Sport Analysis (SPAN) Classes (PE electives available) have previously visited Richmond Football Club, Melbourne United NBL Basketball Club, and Melbourne Park Tennis, visited a local gym and a Wheelchair sports incursion. Sadly, these programs had to be cancelled, but we were still able to gain some virtual visits and elite pearls of wisdom this year.

The CAAF class did get to the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk (1000 steps) in Ferntree Gully, for a workout and picnic in Term 1, before lockdown hit which was a day full of fitness, fun and fellowship. 

During Term 2, the class was joined by 2004 Port Adelaide premiership player, Matt Bishop, for an interview about that great day, as well as coaching, fitness and life as an elite athlete. 

Role play coaching scenarios, coaching primary school basketball teams, including teaching them to skip, play indigenous games and how to throw and catch, were the students most popular responses in the semester surveys about class highlights.

Term 3 saw Dane Pineau and the team from South East Melbourne Phoenix join us for an enjoyable online training session and chat about basketball life, changes in sport and training methods and principles. The term concluded with the annual footy colours day and many students have commented they will use these classes to enhance their own fitness training and / or continue onto VCE Physical Education.

An end of semester survey of CAAF students revealed that the majority really enjoyed coaching the primary students. Here are a few other comments ...
