Time

Our Year 6 students are currently learning about finite and infinite resources as we research renewable energy as part of Exhibition. It has been a pleasure to mentor a group of students as part of this process and to explore the future of hydroelectric, solar, and wind energy.

This had me reflecting on the value of time as one of our most finite resources. Sometimes we feel we 'never have enough hours in the day'. At other times, particularly when our children reach milestones such as starting at primary school in Foundation, graduating from Year 6, or Year 12, we ask ourselves 'where did the time go?'. Sometimes we are not sure if we have spent enough time doing something, or with someone, or we make plans for what we will use our time for in the future.

It was a pleasure to attend the installation of Mr Glyn Roberts as Principal of Endeavour College on Monday and to bless him in that undertaking as he assumes leadership of the learning community there. In his speech on the day, Glyn referred to the importance of setting goals for life wisely, having brave aspirations for ourselves and one another in relationship, and in using time carefully in striving towards these. The students found his speech to be an inspirational note on which to start the term.

In Ephesians 5:15-17, the Apostle Paul exhorts us to:

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.

From a Christian perspective, we have been blessed with the gift of time from God, and we are also stewards of our time. God has given each one of us a piece of eternity called time. These golden opportunities are gifted to us for both our benefit and for God’s glory. If we use them wisely, they are woven by God’s hand into the fabric of eternity. Knowing what we do, we do for Jesus, is a great reminder for us as we strive to be good stewards of our time. Whilst we are entrusted with a small portion of time, if we invest it wisely, it will pay dividends throughout eternity.

Blessings,
