PBL - Positive Behaviour for Learning 2023
Hello Everyone!
St Simon the Apostle’s PBL team ‘Positive behaviour for Learning’ welcomes back all families and students. I hope you all had a happy and safe start to 2023.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING (PBL) is a whole school framework spanning over 5 years. Our PBL Vision is as follows:
This year is our Implementation year. Last year was jam packed with preparing and educating staff, creating material and resources to commence our implementation this year. In 2023 we will be developing our key PBL school practices. These include: Setting clear expectations – Respect, Responsibility, Safety.
Teachers have already commenced teaching and familiarising students with our PBL school expectations of Respect Responsibility, Safety using the characters and their respective colour shown below. Your child will be encouraged to share their learning of PBL with you.
Throughout this year the PBL team will keep you regularly informed through newsletters and our fortnightly assemblies, so please stay tuned. This week’s segment is an introduction about what PBL is and a little on how it helps the school to run smoothly. Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an educational process that brings together the whole-school community. Through consistent language and expectations, we will strive as a whole school to develop a positive, safe, happy and supportive learning culture. Our expectations relate to all areas of the school. The students are explicitly taught the expectations and all staff are continuously reinforcing and reminding all students of those expectations whether in their classrooms, Specialist lessons, outside, etc.
Each week every class has the same PBL focus where each class discusses what the expectation is and the importance it has in our school. The Expectations have been designed from our previous 6 school rules and from data collected over the years from all staff, students and parents. All the staff are working very hard behind the scenes to make St Simon the Apostle a happy and safe environment for all and we will be sharing our journey with you through your children as they share their learning with you as well as through our school communications.
I would like to share our PBL Matrix with you which outlines the direction and path we will be travelling. Please stay tuned for ongoing updates regarding our PBL journey.
Please keep reviewing our Newsletter each week and checking Operoo/emails as more information will be sent out throughout the year. Thanking you always for your support in helping us to provide the best safe, happy and learning environment for your children.
Yours truly
