House Swimming Carnival

We were blessed with two days of fine weather and outstanding team spirit and performances from our students in the pool this week. It was Gerard who dominated the carnival. They were on top after the Year 10 carnival on Tuesday morning and never looked back, finishing almost 300 points clear by the end of the Year 9 carnival on Tuesday afternoon! This was the first time Gerard claimed the Fr Kevin Davine House Swimming Trophy since 2006!

Congratulations to Gerard for winning!!!

Round 1

Tuesday 14 February 2023

Mazenod v Swan Christian

Swan Christian won the toss and chose to bat. They may have regretted that decision as wickets fell quickly and regularly. The bowlers were very well supported by some excellent fielding and great catches.

Swan Christian were all out for 48.

Riley G was the pick of the bowlers with 4/17 on debut for Mazenod.

Adrian M also on debut for Mazenod picked up a handy 2/3, while Jevan B 2/8 and Lachlan C 2/12 were also very serviceable.

In the second innings Mazenod reached the total within 10 overs, but were entitled to bat out their 20 finishing on 5 for 115.

Top scorers were the Harrys in the middle order, with Harry B scoring 43 off 23 balls, and Harry G scoring 24 not out off 29 balls.

Round 2

Wednesday 22 February 2023

Mazenod v Bullsbrook SHS

Mazenod won the toss and chose to bat. The boys batted very well, with the opening partnership lasting 78 runs between Braden F and Jaxon D.

Mazenod went on to post 6 for 147 runs, with Jaxon D scoring a brilliant half century, 50 runs off 44 balls, with 2 big 6’s. It’s Jaxon’s first half century of his career and I’m sure there will be plenty more!

Other key contributors with the bat were Braden F, 29 runs off 32 balls, wicket keeper Joel D, 23 runs off 20 balls, and Nate T with a handy 12 runs off 10 balls with a big 6 over mid-wicket to get the run rate up in the late overs.

Mazenod then took to the field in the second innings to defend their 147 runs. The boys bowled and fielded extremely well, with the first wicket coming as a result of a very special Nate T catch. It has been quoted by Mr David Devon “One of the greatest catches in Graeme Wood Shield history!”. This catch set the high tempo and standard in the field, to then have Bullsbrook SHS all out for 91 runs.

All the bowlers contributed with 10 players rolling the arm over. Pick of the bowlers were Harrison B who took 2/13 off 3 overs, Lachlan (Turbo) S 1/7 off 3 overs with a maiden over and Captain Zaid B, 1 for 6 off 2 overs with a maiden over.

Round 3 is next Wednesday, 1 March @ 12.00pm, against John Septimus Roe @ Mazenod. The boys are already keen to get out there and play on their home deck again, and keep their winning record going in Season 2023.

SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT CLINICS

Sessions to be held from 1st March for 6 weeks. Any interested students please email info@gkdsc.com.au to express your interest.
