Principal's Report

“Leadership and learning are indispensable from each other.”  JFK

Our first whole school assembly today was another momentous occasion in the history of our college. Our Year 7 students walked in to their first whole school assembly alongside our Year 12s.

This morning was a celebration and acknowledgement of our growing leadership at the college. We heard from the candidates who are hoping to represent our college as school captains. These new leaders that will share in the decision making at the college for 2023.

The candidates' speeches were inspirational and motivating. They shared their commitment to the values and vision of Beaumaris Secondary College. They spoke with clarity of purpose which leaders need when taking action.

These students take pride in Beaumaris Secondary College. I am proud of the growth they have shown and would be pleased to have them all as leaders in the college. They have demonstrated curiosity in their active learning over the years. They continually demonstrate optimism as they shared in their speeches today. Their respect for all members of the school community is evident in everything they do. They have demonstrated excellence in their learning. It will clearly be a difficult choice which the students will approach with careful consideration.

As a principal, the Year 12 camp was a professional highlight. I have watched these young people grow into the young adults and it has been a privilege. In Year 7 students write a letter to themselves that they open in Year 12.  The students opened their letters with joy and laughter about their younger selves.

Year 7 camp was a delight with so many students spending 2 nights away from home for the first time. The disco was so much fun to watch as they danced to a wide array of songs. The camp staff were amazing and made it a night to remember.

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work and commitment of our outgoing council. The time and expertise they share to ensure the best of Beaumaris for their children is commendable. Please take time to consider nominating for school council.

Around the grounds, we have adjusted the perimeter fencing at the Balcombe and Reserve Road intersections to provide more space for students waiting to cross on foot or with bikes.  We hope this will ease some of the end of day congestion.

Our outdoor classroom is having shade cloth added for a bit of shade. This will be completed by the end of term.

A Curriculum Day will be held on Thursday 2 March. Students are not required to attend school on this day and there are no scheduled classes. Staff will be involved in curriculum planning on this day.

Check out the Compass Calendar and the Key Dates page in the newsletter for other upcoming events.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the information nights and our inaugural Twilight Festival on March 17th.
