Welcome back to the Patch & Kitchen for 2023!!!

Our first 2 weeks of kitchen and garden have started off with a bang, with all students throwing themselves into the tasks of all things cooking and gardening.

Terms 1 & 2 see years 4 & 6 join us weekly.

This fortnight in the kitchen, the theme was summer seasonal produce. The Wadawarrung call their summer season 'kurrkat', their time to harvest Blue Flax-Lily fruit.

 We cooked: Silverbeet parcels, apple muffins, seasonal savoury muffins, mint & cucumber dip, white bean & herb salad & year 6's added a side of roti bread.

Everyone did an amazing job of working in their teams and enjoyed tasting all the different dishes.

In the garden we performed a huge list of tasks such as fertilizing, chicken care, preparing garden beds, harvesting potatoes, composting, weeding, watering and many more.

The sun shone for the year 4s and they really loved it when the automatic sprinkler system turned on while they worked hard.

This week is a little too hot for the patch so the year 6 crew will be working on planning our autumn garden planting and design themselves a garden to scale.

Volunteers are what helps our program be so successful. Having a couple of extra sets of hands helps the sessions run more efficiently, and your positive encouragement is vital to the growth of the students.
