Pedal Power Cinema

The students have spoken!

After tallying the online votes, we are excited to announce that the 2023 Human-Powered, Zero Carbon cinema night will feature the 1998 film, The Parent Trap.

Making the most of our picturesque location on the banks of the Birrarung, MGC will be hosting our annual zero carbon community open air cinema on Friday 24th of February. Gates open at 5pm and guests are invited to bring along a picnic rug, find a nice spot on the school oval and enjoy the summer vibes while you are entertained by student musicians and peruse the Sustainability showcase waiting for the sun to set and the film begins.

The film is powered 100% by pedal and rowing power, typically ¾ of which is powered by our powerful year 8s who pedal and row in 5 minute shifts throughout the school day to store up the human power in batteries.

Guests are welcome to contribute their own human power on the bicycle or rowing generators or to try their luck on the pedal-powered DUNKATRON, carousel or smoothie machines! (Bring a change of clothes if you’re brave enough to stand under DUNKATRON)

Carnival games, Raffle tickets, Guess the watt competition, face-painting, costume competition and sustainability-themed information showcase will keep you entertained from 5pm until 8.30pm.

The snack bar has you covered for movie refreshments featuring pedal powered smoothies, carbon-neutral coffee, soft serve ice cream, popcorn, plastic-free lollies and for something more substantial, try a scrumptious serving of paella courtesy of the Paella Pan!

Prizes will be awarded for the most powerful pedaller / rower and the best dressed student character!

All funds go towards Sustainability projects at MGC. Any company or community organisiation wishing to donate a raffle prize or sponsor a competition are welcome to contact Ms Catriona Cameron-Martin: 09500774@mgc.vic.edu.au

If you would like to host an information stall in the sustainability showcase, please contact Mr Andrew Vance: avance@mgc.vic.edu.au

Tickets ($20 adult / $15 student / kids under 10 free) will go on sale via the MGC website soon or are available at the gate.

Please bring coins for movie snacks, games and raffles. EFTPOS available from food vendors.

Calling for sponsors and Donations!
