Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

FIRST WEEKS IN FOUNDATION

On Tuesday the 7th of February, we welcomed our beautiful new Foundation students for 2023! The students had a wonderful day where they met their classmates and explored their classroom. Students were introduced to their class name, and we spoke about the importance of this name.

The Foundation students were also lucky to meet our first character from our Little Learners Love Literacy program – Milo the Monkey who makes the sound /m/.

Concluding the day, the students participated in both Music and Steam class where they met Miss Butler and Ms Walker.

Throughout the weeks following, students have explored many new concepts. These include numbers, sounds and comprehension strategies in literacy. Students have commenced their first piece of artwork at school and explored The Patch in Kitchen Garden.

As the students settle in, they have been learning the rules and routines of school and have been demonstrating these with great effort. Congratulations to the Brainy Bees and Mindful Munchkins, what a wonderful start we have had to the year.

INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

On Tuesday, Maramba Primary School celebrated International Mother Language Day. This day is held on the 21st of February each year and recognises that languages and multilingualism can advance inclusion.

The student population in Victorian government schools is diverse, however, many languages are under threat of disappearing. Celebrating this day is important as it ensures that these languages are not forgotten, as well as keeping the cultural heritage and history of countries intact.

The theme of the 2023 International Mother Language Day, Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education, is a particularly relevant theme for us at Maramba Primary School.  Throughout the day, all students in the school engaged in learning centred on the importance of linguistic diversity and the implications of language on identify, communication and education.

HOT DAY ICY POLES SUCCESS

Over the past couple of weeks our amazing FOM volunteers have opened the canteen to help keep our students cool by selling some icy cold frozen treats. Both days have been a huge success with many students buying something but also bringing big smiles to their faces while taking their mind of the heat.

Thank you to all of our FOM Volunteers Claire Giankopoulos, Claire Huijser, Jo Meester, Wendy Reichert and TheirCare's Jess for the great work you are doing to support our students and the school.

We couldn't do it without you!
